Can't install windows 8.1 because drivers fail

I have an Inspiron 1750 with a 1080p (1900 x1020) display and I can't install 8.1 because I get a blue screen that does not contain any pertinent information for the fail. I have another Inspiron 1750 with a 900p display and 8.1 installs on it; but I can't leave the update because the HDD are interchangeable for back up reason. When I take the HDD out of the 900p and install it in the 1080p I get the blue screen. Other than the displays, the two PCs are identical - every piece of the hardware - wifi, keyboard, etc....

Foxnews had a banner saying that there was another update (maybe a service pack) coming out, is this going to solve the problem with 8.1? I think that 25% of the PCs have a driver problem with 8.1; it is all over the internet.

According to Dell support page

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/product/inspiron-1750

your computer is NOT compatible with Windows 8.x. I do recommend using Windows 7.

Consider using upgrade assistant

The Upgrade Assistant does not work. I am running Windows 8 and when I ran the 8 assistant it said I had 6 software items that were not compatible and no hardware. I ran 8.1 and it only found 3 software items and no hardware. I have tried to install 8.1 and it fails just as Dell states. I suggest MS either fix or remove their upgrade assistants because they mislead people and cause major problems as happened to me - complete removal of 8.1 and re-install 8.

MS destroyed the use of IDE hard drives with Windows 7 and now have destroyed many more pieces of hardware with 8.1 - my guess is that this is being done at a joint venture between MS and manufactures so they can sell more computers.
