Can't get updates. At all.
I have a Dell running XP and I can't get updates even if I go to Microsoft website and try to download them manually. I don't get any error code just nothing happens. I also can't access my Internet Options box. When I click on the icon the box flashes on for a micro-second then disappears. I've run a number of anti-virus programs, AntiVir, Trojan remover, MalwareBytes, AdAware, Microsoft Malicious Software removal tool all found nothing. I'm thinking that this machine needs to have the OS re-installed.1 person got this answerI do too

Hello dmkinsey Try running this Updates Fix from Microsoft To reset the Windows Update components automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.Note this Fix it Solution has two modes Default and Aggressive. You should run the Fix it solution in Default mode and determine if it resolves your problem with Windows Update before running it in Aggressive mode. Internet OptionsWhat happens if you go toInternet Explorer/Tools and click on Internet Options. Any error message?.

Thanks for your reply, I did run the FixIt tool but I guess I forgot that it had the aggresive mode, I only ran the regular version. I'll try the aggressive mode. On Intrnet Options via Internet Explorer- I know that some of the buttons on the IE toolbar are hidden/not functional. (I don't have the bad PC here at home) I have tried a couple routes to get Internet Options, all no success. On error messages, I never see any. The only result I have is "nothing happens" Is there a system information tool that will show recent errors so I'll have a starting point for this problem? I originally thought this was a virus of some kind because Intrnet Options and Windows Updates are so completely disabled. Thanks
