Can't get IP from DHCP in Windows 7 domain member
Hello, I have two notbeooks joined to a Windows 2003 R2 domain, with Windows 7 RC. Everything goes wight with network until the noteboks joins the domain. After this I am unable to stablish network connections neither by Ethernet or Wifi. In Wifi, I can detect the network, input the password and autenticate, but the SO don't get the IP from the DHCP server (the DHCP server is in a Cisco firewall appliance, not in the Domain Controler). If I manualy set IP settings I do can connect to the network. In Ethernet the same issue. I tried to run the netwrok diagnostics but I get the "Diagnostic policy service not started error" and I cannot start it. Always get 'Access denied error'. I think this is an error related with some Active Directory policy or something but it is very strange because only happens in Windows 7. I have 15 Windows XP Professional computer in the domain with no issue in network connection. Do you have any idea how can I solve this? If you need furhter information please don't hesitate to request it. Regards, Patricio Campos PS: sorry for my english, I am chilean and only speak spanish.

No, it will not have anything to do with AD policies. Getting your network config must happen before you can connect to the network. AD policies cannot affect youif you do not have an IP yet! What happens if you try to get your network config from DHCP using "ipconfig /renew" from a command prompt?Bill

When I open a command prompt with administrator privileges and run ipconfig /renew I get:An error occurred while renewing interface Conexin de red inalmbrica : Access is denied. I am experiencing the exact same problems. Inmy organization we have several Windows 7 clients. Some of which are RC and some are RTM. As of yesterday all Windows 7 clients experience Ethernet Connection problems? All our Windows XP and Vista clients do not have any issues. When connected via DHCP I receive the correct IP configuration (IP address, Default Gateway andDNS servers)but I am unable to do any thing on our lan (Ping IP, Ping DNS, Internet, tracert fails). As soon as I configure a static IP with the same information I receive from DHCP all of a sudden I can connect to the LAN?When I am connected via Wireless all seems to work fine (also DHCP). So why is it that acquiring an IP address from DHCP for an Ethernet adapteris not working properly?I have reinstalled the Ethernet adapter, disabled IP V6 both to no avail.

You said from yesterday all went down, check windows update history to see what updates were updated on the system. Also try a system restore on one of the machine and see if that solves the problem

Thank you for your reply. this ofcourse has been done already. Yesterday I only received a Windows Defender definitions update. Nontheless I did a system restore before that installation point. Problem still exists. But we might have found another issue locally so I will not blame Windows 7 for now :) and wait for our current examination.

I workaround this issue as follows: 1. Unjoin the computer from the domain 2. Delete the computer account form Active Directory 3. Create a new OU for the computer accounts in Active directory and block GPO inheritance so no GPO was applied to computers in this OU 4. Create computer accounts for all the Windows 7 computers in the new OU beforejoining the computer in the domain 5. Delete any computer domain policy could stay in the computer dinjoined from the domain. For this go to\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy and delete everything in this directory ( I don't really know if this is completely right but it worked for me) 6. Join the Windows 7 computer to domain After this I was be able to work in the domain. The problem yet unsolved is I cannot apply any computer policy to Windows 7 computer, but for now this is a minor problem for me. I hope this work for you. Patricio

Hi I;m having the same problem. For a while this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222 KB helped a bit. It looks like the GPO IS CHANGING something after a while and the problem returns regs, maciej
