Can't find downloaded files, RC 2
I have searched the forums and cannot find a solution. I go to download files from the Net and though I see the files downloading, when I go to the location either the computer selected or on different times locations that I select, the files are not there. I have it set to see all files, including hidden one and still cannot find the files. I click the start button and type the name of the file in the search location and most of the time the file cannot be found. Just awhile ago I typed the name in and it did give the location, but when I went to the location, there is no file. Has anyone had this problem and solved it? I cannot file a bug report as the bug reporting tool cannot be found when it downloads. I followed MS advise and upgraded from XP Pro SP 2. Thanks to all. Tom

Hi Jaytf: I am using RC 2 build 5744 and the upgrade went without any hitches. I used the upgrade advisor program first and removed a couple programs that it said wouldn't work and then upgraded. I finally downloaded the bug reporting tool to my desktop which is running XP Pro SP 2 and transferred it to my laptop running Vista RC 2. That is the only way stil I can access downloaded files. I filed a bug report and the answer to that was to click the "start" button and run a search for the file in question. I did that and it found it in a "download" file location but when I click to access the file it says that the file cannot be found. I have been in computers since 1981 and started Beta testing for Microsoft in 1994 and I have never run intoa problem like this one. I know how to go through the files on Windows Explorer and search for files and I have do that with this problem but cannot for the life of me figure it out. Have gone on other forums and other people are having the same exact problem and the solution seems to be to run a third party download manager or opera and use it in place of IE Explorer. I have downloaded both and will try them today. But this is an obvious flaw (bug) in IE Explorer 7 (and Vista) and with RTM either anyday now or already done, it needs to be fixed. Not all people are going to be running out and buying new machines just to run Vista. Most will be like me and want to upgrade their present machines. Mine is a Dell Inspiron 5150 P4 3.06GHz with 1GB of memory and should have no problem whatever running Vista, and except for this problem it doesn't have any problems, except little minor ones I expect with a new OS, especially a Beta. Oh yes, this isn't the first Vista build on this machine. I keep trying different builds and then going back to XP. This is only a 40GB hard drive so I'm going to get me a bigger hard drive and dual boot to XP Pro till Vista gets its act together. I see a lot of "eye candy" in the system but I think MS is going way overboard on the security thing, especially with homeowners with one or two socomputers. Big business, yes, it will be good, but as for me I want total control of "mine" computer and if I have to stay with XP Pro to do it, then I will. I want to thank you for your reply to the post. Didn't think I was going to get one so I kept checking other forums and such. If I find the solution to this problem I will be happy to let you know, and I know the solution isn't using a third party download manager. That will do in the short term but will not correct the flaw in the OS. Have a great week. Know things are heating up with RTM so close. You guys do a fantastic job. Tom
