Can't find Wireless Display Adapter (miracast) while connected to Wifi Network.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here.  We purchased a Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, and it appears to be working.  The issue we are having is when my laptop is connected to the wifi network (LAN), it doesn't find the wireless adapter.  If I disconnect from the wifi network, it finds the wireless adapter and connects fine.  It appears that my laptop isn't creating a Wifi Direct connection when searching for the Adapter and therefore can't connect to the wireless adapter unless the wifi is disconnected and therefore available.  Does anyone have experience with this, and ideas?

I haven't yet tried other laptops, but we did test with an Andriod phone, and that connected fine, and was also connected to the Wifi (LAN) at the same time. The laptop is Windows 8.1, and appears to be miracast compliant. (the search for wireless display button is available)

What about after it is connected, are you saying that you can resume Wi-Fi then?  If not I would suspect interference from the two sources of wireless packets.  Supposedly there are some "channel" changes you can try on the Wi-Fi side but I haven't seen any such flexibility on the WiDi side.

Are you joined to a domain? Behind a firewall? Please provide more info on your environment.

Thanks.  After I've connected to the Wireless Display, as soon as I attempt to connect to a regular Wifi connection, my connection to the wireless display is lost.

My laptop is not on a domain.  This is a corporate environment so the Wifi AP I don't know the details on.  However, it doesn't appear to be associated with settings on the Wifi AP, as when I tested with an Andriod phone, I was able to remain connected to the WiDi connection, and Wifi AP Connection at same time.

Is the machine up to date? Have you tried to plug in with different USB ports to have a check?
We can test the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter device with another machine to have a check if it is possible.

In addition, we can take the following steps to have a troubleshoot.
1.Reinstall the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter driver from the device manager.
2.Run the built-in troubelshoot tool to have a diagnostic.

Can you take the MWDA home and try it on your own TV and with your own router since you don't know the details about the corp access point?

Following up, no answer yet.  I have tested with other laptops/devices and the wireless display works fine.  There seems to be something unique to my laptop.   Either hardware or software.  Any ideas is appreciated.  Thanks!

If the issue persists, please take the following steps to have a troubleshoot.
1.Update the machine manually and ensure all the updates has been installed.
2.Plug in the device from another USB port to have a check.
3.Update or reinstall the driver for the device from the device manager.
4.Perform a clean boot to troubleshoot whether this issues is caused by a third party service.

If the issue persists, please check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue.

As you suspect there is something specific to your notebook, you may want to provide the make/model of your notebook and the wireless adapter so that the community can potentially respond to device specific considerations.

Yes, this is where I'm headed.  I've now tried other laptops, and it works fine.  There seems to be something with my laptop/wireless card which doesn't allow for simultaneous Wifi connections (one regular wifi connection and one wifi-direct connection).  

Device Manager says my wireless card is a "Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC".  

Would there be any settings in the Wifi card properties, or anywhere else I might start looking for why my card doesn't seem able to do simultaneous connections?
