Can't establish VPN connection in vista: error 651
Hi all, Ican't connect from home to my office's VPN server running my vista computer. The connection is L2TP with a pre-shared key. TheVPN server is Windows 2K3. I also have an XP computer with the same settings that connects to the VPN from home without a problem, both computers being behind the same router. I've searched on the internet for this same problem but found no answers. The 651 message means "Your modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error". I've tried using my wired adapter and my wireless adapter but had the same result. I've disabled my vista firewall but it made no differences. Finally, i've enabled the RRAStracing with netsh ras set tracing * enabled. Does any one have an idea on what else could be done to solve my 651 problem? Fred The following is a extract from the trace files, took at the time of the connection failure. RASMAN.LOG ... I had this problem when I was connecting with my VPN client to an NLB enabled ISA array. By changing the IP address in the VPN client to the host address of one of my array servers, the problem was gone. Unfortunately this doesn't provide that high availability it would do with NLB.
