Can't create/open profile, access is denied
Windows 7 has a cool feature that allows usersto run a program as another user. Each time I try this, I recieve four Events in Event Viewer that equal up to access denied for the alternate profile. I also encounter this error when reaching the "Configuring your extender" section of the Windows Media Center Extender Setup, since the setup attempts to create an alternate profile. Here are the message details from Event Viewer. Note that this still occurs if I try to run Media Center as an administrator, and even when I disable UAC, reboot, and try again.System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles General [ Guid] {DB00DFB6-29F9-4A9C-9B3B-1F4F9E7D9770} EventID 1509 Version 0 Level 3 Task 0 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x8000000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2010-02-13T02:26:34.059095000Z EventRecordID 10403 - Correlation [ ActivityID] {00000000-7B28-0000-25F3-C8AD52ACCA01} - Execution [ ProcessID] 952 [ ThreadID] 5468 Channel Application Computer DavidsLaptop - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-21-3382456229-1256465343-2950426958-1037 - EventData Source C:\Users\Default\ Target C:\Users\Mcx1-DAVIDSLAPTOP\ Error Access is denied. *********************************************************************** - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service [ Guid] {89B1E9F0-5AFF-44A6-9B44-0A07A7CE5845} EventID 1511 Version 0 Level 2 Task 0 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x8000000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2010-02-13T02:26:34.064095300Z EventRecordID 10404 - Correlation [ ActivityID] {00000000-7B28-0000-25F3-C8AD52ACCA01} - Execution [ ProcessID] 952 [ ThreadID] 5468 Channel Application Computer DavidsLaptop - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-21-3382456229-1256465343-2950426958-1037 EventData *********************************************************************** - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles General [ Guid] {DB00DFB6-29F9-4A9C-9B3B-1F4F9E7D9770} EventID 1509 Version 0 Level 3 Task 0 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x8000000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2010-02-13T02:26:34.065095300Z EventRecordID 10405 - Correlation [ ActivityID] {00000000-7B28-0000-25F3-C8AD52ACCA01} - Execution [ ProcessID] 952 [ ThreadID] 5468 Channel Application Computer DavidsLaptop - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-21-3382456229-1256465343-2950426958-1037 - EventData Source C:\Users\Default\ Target C:\Users\TEMP\ Error Access is denied. ***************************************************************************** - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service [ Guid] {89B1E9F0-5AFF-44A6-9B44-0A07A7CE5845} EventID 1500 Version 0 Level 2 Task 0 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x8000000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2010-02-13T02:26:34.065095300Z EventRecordID 10406 - Correlation [ ActivityID] {00000000-7B28-0000-25F3-C8AD52ACCA01} - Execution [ ProcessID] 952 [ ThreadID] 5468 Channel Application Computer DavidsLaptop - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-21-3382456229-1256465343-2950426958-1037 - EventData Error Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed. *********************************************************************************Can someone help me with this problem? I've also tried disabling my Firewall (Norton 360 v 3.5, all updates).I've also installed all windows updates, most current drivers, and have no other crashes occurring on the machine. It is a Dell Vostro 1500, running Windows 7 Professional x86 (for now). This was a clean Install, and not an upgrade.I've tried multiple extenders, and this happens each time. I just recently happened to notice that I receive the exact same errors when I try to run an application as another user.

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to share with the following KBs:Error message when you log on to a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based computer by using a temporary profile: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"Roaming user profiles and FSRM File ScreeningMoreover, I found a similar issue:W7: User Profile Service service failed at log on: Apparently W7 is no longer creating any user profile data other than username and pictureHope these can be helpful.Best RegardsDale

Thank you, I will look at these. Currently if I go to user management, I can create new user profiles but trying to log into them gives the error discussed in http://www.brooks-bilson.com/blogs/rob/index.cfm/2009/1/5/Fix-for-Vistas-The-User-Profile-Service-service-failed-the-logon-User-profile-cannot-be-loaded#c42AB7AE6-0B26-9AF4-6DB3C7B226C688B4)c:\users\default\AppData\Local\Application Data and C:\users\default\Local Settings\Application Data had permission rules to deny access. After changing the permissions and opening the folders I see all the folders from the Local Settings folder inside of the application data folder, including another application data folder. Opening that application folder I see that it also has all the same files/folders of its parent folder. And it kept going like that. I'll try to keep troubleshooting. Thanks for the resources.Regards,DaveH

I completed the steps in the blog. As the symptoms he described applied directly to my system. However, the issue is still present. I also checked the Default User folder, and it was fine. But I still can't log in to new profiles, and get the same events logged when trying to run as a different user, or setup MC, etc. Not sure what to do now, i have a friend sending me a copy of his default account, I will try to drop his files in my system, if they aren't also plagued. After that, I was planning just to reformat, but I hate to wipe out something while its still in state without figuring out what was causing it or how to fix it.I also tried the start in safe mode trick, but I can't start in safe mode; I hang after some of the drivers load, so that was a nogo, certainly a seperate issue, one which I haven't tried to repro yet. Thanks for the previous info, and I would appreciate any additional resources/assistance.Regards,DaveH
