Can't connect windows 7 machine to WEP or WPA2 networks
Hello! I'm rolling out a few test windows 7 pro laptops and have hit a stumbling block, i can't connect any of the laptops to any of our Wireless AP's. The wireless adapter in question on the laptop is an Intel 5100 AGN and the laptop itself is an HP 2530p. I've tried connecting this to both WEP and WPA2-personal (using AES) security type networks all without any luck. I've updated the drivers for the wireless card to latest edition, made sure WLAN Auto config service is started and running, tried manually creating the network connection. Initially i thought this was down to the encryption on the WPA2 encryption connection but as its not connecting to WEP either so now i'm not too sure? If anyone can point me on the direction of a fix it would be appreciated as after an hour of furious googling i'm not much further on! Thanks in advance Matt Smith

Have you try disabling the wireless security setting and try accessing the Wireless AP again? Also did you ensure the input of ssid and passphrase is the same for your laptop as well as in the wireless AP/ router config page? I would suggest you to connect using a lan cable first, once you done the above, save and exit the config page, next try accessing again this time using wireless

Hi Daniel Firstly thanks for the fast response Not tried disabling security as of yet as i'm not keen on leaving the AP unsecured but can test this on a off LAN AP this afternoon, SSID and passphrase are 100% correct. The wireless connections are getting stuck at the authentication stage so not too sure how connecting via LAN cable will work?, i can create the connection manually but it wn't authenticate? Many thanks Matt Smith

Hi Daniel Sorry i misunderstood the LAN cable idea, have done that now and have built the connection and connected to the AP but have no internet or network access. If i remove the connection i still can't connect to the AP without building the connection manually whilst on connected via cable, and when i do connect i have no network access. I'll update when i get my hands on the unsecured AP. Thanks Matt Smith

Btw did you managed to logged into the router and AP config page? Most likely there's some configuration you have not set or left out. Just a thought is the IP being configure as dhcp or static on the router/ap and is there any third party firewall on the laptop itself, like norton security, ZA? "I'm rolling out a few test windows 7 pro laptops and have hit a stumbling block, i can't connect any of the laptops to any of our Wireless AP's."I assume you have already input the same ssid and passphrase on the laptop wireless connection/setting as well as the AP/Router config page? If the laptop are new and preinstall with win 7 pro, and IF you have yet to input the passphrase and ssid of cos it won't authenticate

Hi Matt, Please also check the following: 1. Can you access some other secured wireless networks which are available? 2. Boot the system to clean boot environment and have a try: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 3. Update the router’s firmware. In addition, I would like to share the following with you: Troubleshoot network connection problems Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

SSID and passphrase have been input correctly. Have found the problem now, it seemed that changing the encryption level to WPA/WPA2 personal on the airpoint and re-adding the same password as before allows the laptop to authenticate. Also something else worth noting is that once the WPA level had been changed the encryption type on the wireless connection in manage wireless networks had changed from AES to TKIP. From this i can only assume that the wirless adapter on this laptop has seems to struggle with AES encrypted WPA security. Thanks for the help everyone! Ta Matt
