Can't connect to wireless router w/PC; others do fine
I am setting up my PC in a new location, trying to connect to a different wireless router. The computer finds the secured network, and it has a strong signal, but when I try to connect I get an error message saying: "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. (etc)." I know the wireless card is working, cause I can find, and connect to other unsecured networks. My iPhone and Mac laptops connect without any trouble. Using Netgear wgr614v92 people need an answerI do too

Hi jboltwv, Thanks for posting. What encryption are you using? If you are using WPA please update the PC to at least Service Pack 2 and then apply the patch below. Windows XP WPA Patch Hope this helps! Shawn - Support Engineer - MCP, MCDST Microsoft Answers Support Engineer Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think

Do you see your own network? Did you give your network a unique name or have you left it at the router's default (e.g., "Linksys")?Are you using Windows Wireless Zero Configuration to manager the wireless network adapter or are you using the utility that was supplied by the adapter's manufacturer? The problem you have likely is caused by a mismatch between the security provisions set up in your router and those of your wireless adapter. If you are using the manufacturer's configuration utility for the adapter, read the manual to determine how to disable it and allow Windows to control the adapter, then do the following:In Network connections, right click on the icon for the wireless adapter and select Properties.Click the "Wireless Networks" tab.Check the box at the top to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings"In the list of Preferred networks, Remove at least your own network (and any others that you don't intend to use in the near future).Click OKClick View Wireless Networks. Select your network and carefully enter the encryption password you set up on your router.
