Can't connect to an OLAP cube
Hello,
I have the 64-bit version of windows Home premium.
I have tried several time to connect to an OLAP cube (the sample file that comes with Crystal Reports), but can't on this windows 7 computer, so I'm wondering if it has something to do with this version of windows because I can connect to the cub on
my windows xp machine.
Below are the steps that I take
1. On the Connection Properties dialog box, I select the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Server 10.0. (on my xp machine I have the option Microsoft OLE DB provider for OLAP services 8.0, but not on the windows 7 machine - can I install this on my
windows 7 computer)
2. I select the local cube option
3. Then I select the .cub file and click the test connection button. I get the following error
The connection could not be established.
Failed to initialize (The current operation is not allowed for a restricted client connection).
To me, this error message means that there is something not set properly under windows opposed to it being something in Crystal Reports.
I'm hoping someone can tell me what windows 7 option needs to be changed.
Thank you

Are you trying to connect to OLAP 2000?
Should still be able to use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Server 10.0 . If installed, the 8.0 olap provider dll should be located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\System\Ole DB
- should be MSOLAP80.dll - check if there. Otherwise, will need to install this from the OLAP 2000 SP4
- Also - disable UAC on the Win 7 box to see if that helpsKetan Thakkar | Microsoft Online Community Support
