Can't connect to Win8 machine via remote desktop

I am having trouble connecting from a Macbook running OS X to a Windows 8 machine via remote desktop.  I have checked that the remote desktop service is running on the remote machine and have tried with and without the firewall.  Port forwarding appears to be set up correctly on my router.

I collected some network traffic using Netmon and I can see the request coming into the remote machine.  I am not sure why the connection is being refused.  I've already gone down the trouble shooting list here.

The error from the remote desktop app on OS X says it can't connect to the remote machine.  It never gets as far as asking for my credentials.

Hi,

For further help, please collect following network traffic and upload here for our research:

1. Traffic on Mac computer when trying to connect to Windows 8 via RDP.

2. Traffic on Windows 8 computer when Mac computer tries to connect to it.

Please upload them to a file sharing service like Skydrive or "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

192.168.1.126 is the Macbook on the local network and 192.168.1.150 is Win8.  Note I am trying to connect over the Internet (as opposed to local LAN), where the Win8 machine has hostname bwirt.mooo.com (66.68.179.158).

Thanks!

Have you gotten it to work from another Windows system?

There are a number of things you have to do to prepare a Windows system to accept remote desktop sessions.  Start by clicking the Start button and typing Remote into the search box.  Oops, you might not have a Start menu.  Hit the Win key and type Remote.  What you're trying to get to is this box to set up the remote access:

I've done that, but thanks.

Sorry to start with the basics, but not everyone does all their homework before posting here.

You've verified it works from another Windows system, both from inside your LAN and from outside your router?  Those are the next two things I'd check.

FYI, I've connected into my Win 8.1 system with an iPad running RDP, so I can assure you it's possible.
