Can't connect Vista to Windows 2000 server
I recently got a computer in my office that runs Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 and I'm trying to log it onto my office server which runs Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. I'm unable to log into the server with my administrator password (or any other user's password) and when I type "administrator" into the username space Vista changes the Username to "vistacomputer name"\administrator, with themessage:"Windows is unable to log you on. Make sure your user name and password are correct." Suggestions?

Hi, Thank you for posting. Based on my research, it is a new feature in Windows Longhorn(Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008). When you type "administrator", the system will automatically change the "log on to" to local system instead of the domain. To log on the domain, you maytry typing"administrator"with the domain name as: Domain/administrator Or, Administrator@domain.local Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

When you try to access any resources from a windows box it will pass on the local session rights to the resource automatically unlike linux systems. So inorder to successfully access the resource on other server or domain try prefixing the username with the domain name . for example : OTHERDOMAINNAME\YOURLOGINNAME and then type in the password.... hope this should help.....Regards, KOWSHAL H.M. a.k.a W@R10CK

Your best bet is to jut remote desktop into the server and log in with your normal username and password. This always works.
