You could use the remote desktop connection to access the remote computer and change the computer description.

Sorry but when you want to do it quiet in background, it's not the solution. It can be easier if it's like in XP, don't you think?

In XP it is like that:Right click on My Computer->Manage->Action->Connect to another computer->Right click on "Computer Management(NetBios Name)"->PropertiesAnd then you have option to change the Computer Description, Name and Domain or Workgroup. In Vista the last step(Properties) is missing when you connect to another computer.http://www.flickr.com/photos/34568152@N04/3212225891/Is that enough? At the moment I can't make screenshot from XP. The context menu is the same. Just in XP we have one button Properties, which I need in order to do this without using different software.

This was apparently removed from the MMC 3.0, because thisway of renamingcomputers is no longer available when SP3 is installed on XP.If the computers already are in the domain you can use the Resource Kit Tool netdom.exehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/298593/en-us

We just had same issue and this thread gave4 us this solution; Net USe -p <password> -u <USer> enter then ran SC \\<servername> start AOLSERVICE and it worked great where before we would get acces denied using sc by itself and psexec was not an option for us though we usit profuesley else where.

If you have a Server 2003 on the network then connect to the clients using it's "Manage" MSC. It's the same as XP's and allows editing of the descriptions -- Steve Parry MCP www.gwynfryn.co.uk-- Steve Parry www.gwynfryn.co.uk
