Can't access new 64-bit W7 Computer on home network
12/14 Trying for a week to network three computers (DELL-XP, HP-WIN7, and GATEWAY-WIN7) in a workgroup called MSHOME. The GATEWAY-WIN7(Home Premium 64-bit) and DELL-XP (Home 32-bit) computers are wirelessly connected to an ATT residential gateway named ISAACS. The HP-WIN7(Home Premium 32-bit) computer is connected to the same gateway by ethernet. All three computers boot to administrative account jerry with password is2660. File sharing is turned on on all three computers. GATEWAY-WIN7 sees and communicates fully with both other computers. DELL-XP sees and communicates with HP-WIN7, but it cannot see GATEWAY-WIN7. HP-WIN7 sees and communicates with DELL-XP. It sees GATEWAY-WIN7 but cannot get past message "login failure unknown username or bad password." I have shared the folder c:\__gateway with everybody (r/w). How should I configure GATEWAY-WIN7 properly so that DELL-XP and HP-WIN7 can access and share files?

Found this kluge, which I will use until I can find something a little more elegant. From Start, typed in 'netplwiz' and unchecked "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Used suggested account 'gateway' and put in password is2660. Then accessed computer from hp-win7 with that login and obtained access from there. Logged in from dell-xp the same way. This seems rather arcane. Is there a reasonablyunderstandable reference book that covers a lot of these little tricks so I don't have to spend several days hoping for assistance in trying to fix every little problem I encounter with this OS?

Please make sure that Password Protected Sharing is enabled on all computers. If it does not help, temporary disable firewall and check the result again. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
