Can't access Public folder on a Desktop(Windows 7) from a notebook using Vista on the same network
I have a home network with a desktop running Windows 7 and a notebook running Windows Vista. Both computers can see each other; both have Public folders and sharing of printers and files enabled. On the Desktop, I can access the notebook Public folder and the files. However, when I try to access the Public folder on the desktop, I get an error message:Windows cannot access \\Hp-pc\Public. "Public" is available but the user account that you are logged in with(Administrator) was denied accessCheck the spelling of the name of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. When I click Diagnose, it saysNetwork Diagnostics doesn't know the user name and password.Neither computer has any password activated, so I can't find out what is the problemAny ideas?

Hi, Is the Hp-pc installed Windows 7 operating system? Based on my research, I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily disable firewall on each machine. 2. Modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine. a. Click Start and open Control Panel. b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings". c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options: "Turn on Network Discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders", "Turn off password protected sharing" If the issue persists, please also refer to the following article: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista Thanks, Novak

For all your words all you basically said was make sure access is enabled and check the help file. Don't you think if it was that straight forward people wouldn't be having a problem with it?
