Can't Turn File History ON, but Others Can* on Same PC in Windows 8.1 - Why?

The title says it all... that IS my problem. We've tried Homegroup T/S, App T/S, .. and Tried to get the Microsoft "Fix It" tool from the Download Center, but the site keeps taking us Back to the DC start screen, even when we are signed in.

Along that same line, I cannot lookup the information about any KB updates' information unless I'm NOT signed in[???]. When Not signed in, some* info is there explaining somewhat what the update is about ... but After I sign in, the site (knowledge base) can find Nothing at All..(???).

Hi HopeCH,

According to the title ,do you mean the other accounts can open the file history except the specific account ?
Can we open up the file history before ?Have you made any modifications to the machine before ?
If only this specific account can not open the file history ,there is a much possibility that the present user account profile has corrupted .
Is the account a local account or a domain account ?

Please refer to the following link to fix the corrupted user profiles.(It is also applied to Windows 8.1 )

 Hi & Thanks, MeipoXu,

Correct, I am the only one (of 3 of us) that can't turn on File History. My Husband & Son were able to use the spare D-drive as a store-point for their backup, but the machine/Windows 8.1 won't allow me to.

The link you sent doesn't help me much (I can't translate it to Windows 8.1... and a search for "fixing a corrupt user file in windows 8.1" returned No Results... go figure)  but thanks for trying. ...maybe I'll try searching without signing in... I got more information about KB updates by Not logging in**.

The link provided by MeipoXu, Fix a corrupted user profile, will also work for Windows 8.1. This procedure is just having you add a new user account to your computer and verifying that it works properly or like the two other accounts on your computer. If it does work, then you can follow the rest of the Fix a corrupted user profile.

You may also want to verify your accounts access rights in User Accounts while you are there. If you have only User access rights, you will want to change that to Administrator.

Another item to check will be the user permissions that are setup on the D-drive and add your user account if it is not listed. If your user account is in the same group as your husbands and sons accounts, then you should have access also unless some exceptions have been selected.
