So I recently got the Asus Vivotab 8, and it is a pretty good little tablet, except storage on these tablets are a bit.. tight to say the least. Anyway the tablet comes with an 8 GB recovery partition, and I have tried everything to get rid of it. I created a recovery drive with the box ticked to copy the recovery drive, there was no option to delete it at the end. I tried using Disk Management, and clicking on the Healthy (Recovery Partition) only brings up help. I have tried using diskpart in cmd, but I get the error "Delete is not allowed on the current boot, system, pagefile, crashdump, or hibernation volume".

Is there any way to delete the partition so I can get more room on my Vivotab?

You could try to use the diskpart tool.

Click Start --> Run and press the Enter button.

I have the same issue.

System does not allow to remove recovery partition (copies elsewhere). It uses stupid 7G out from 29G disk and should be removed.

Diskpart says that can't delete startup, system, paging, memory or hibernation drive. ..and recovery is none of them. So.. some help needed.

Using third party tool will mess up boot, tried that. Maybe system boot goes first to recovery and then to system.. just quessing here.

An option to consider is that deleting the recovery partition is an option provided when you create a USB Recovery Drive with the recovery image.

This does not work either.  Created a backup USB drive for a 16GB Windows 8.1 tablet and there is no option to remove that recovery partition at the finish.

Currently, this OS has a couple of things NOT going for it - inability to delete the recovery partition then extend the main partition/the option to delete the recovery partition upon backup of said partition and the inability to load apps onto the microSD card.  Please fix - we bought the OS and the device ;-).

I believe the diskpart command you are looking for is "delete partition override".

I struggle with this issue for a Lenovo Miix 3 with only 32G system drive, which defiantly not is enough for a win8.1 system. The PC came with this setup inclusive a MS Office pack. Windows benefits in being a multi-user-system, but only few users with only very few small apps fill up the 32G drive in a minute. I didn't understand why MS and Lenovo offer such a stupid setup.  

I have copied the recovery partition to a USB, by help of the WIN8.1 built in application for this, in the thought that I can get extra 6GB added to the system drive. 

Could it be that the system use parts of the "recovery"-partition when booting normally, and therefore the recovery partition is protected?  

Can we have some comments from MS- Lenovo-folks who knows about these things, so we can get figuring out if freeing up 6GB is a possibility or not? 

a 100% way of doing it is download surface RT imj to a drive and hold down vol - press power hold vol - till the screen flashes let go and just wait after that pretty much can see what to do its easy have a vivotab rt that was stuck on the black start up screen after the 8.1 update and this worked but it gave me the option to keep the partition reformat the whole drive into one hope this kinda helps im a little drunk lol

The same issue here with an Acer 10 tablet.

I could not delete the 8GB recovery partition with diskpart "delete partition override". Even it was not possible to delete the partition after the creation of the usb recovery stick. So, I need to start the tablet with a linux system to delete the partition. There must be a way to do this with Windows commands.

I have the same problem with my Bauhn 16GB 10.1 tablet. I have tried deleting the 5GB recovery partition using Recovery USB formation, Windows disk management, diskpart with the override command, and none of these methods work. I think Edvin (April 13) is probably right in saying that the recovery partition is protected and may be needed for standard boot as well as system recovery. If that is so then using a third party partition manager (eg EaseUS) might remove the partition but mess up the normal boot subsequently. I am scared to use this unless someone out there can convince me it is perfectly safe. Please keep looking for an answer everybody!
