I'm trying to connect to a Vista Home Prem Laptop, from a Windows 7 RC(7100) Desktop using the Windows Live Messanger. Both of the computers are connected to the same router, desktop is wired, laptop is wireless, signed into messenger using different accounts. I can ask for remote assistance using the Vista pc, and then on the Win7 pc, the remote assistance window comes up and I am able to enter the password that I used to create the session on the vista pc. Once I enter the password, nothing happens after that, just a white screen, I cannot actually connect to the vista pc. Windows 7 launches a trouble shooter that ends up saying there must be a problem with the vista pc. Is there any specific firewall setting that I need to use for this? Both computers are only running AVG free 8.5 antivirus, and windows build in firewall.

Well I tried connecting the laptop using a wired connection and it worked right away. So it seems the remote assiatiance did not work right away over wireless. Any ideas how to possibly make it work? I'm planing on using this to connect to friends computers, which may be connected wirelessly.

so, with one computer connected to internet via wifi and the other hard wired in, you couldn't remote assist but when they are both hard wired in, you can???? I am having similar problems with mine and my mothers computer. We are at two different locations, her computer is hard wired in and I run my computer on a router. She will go through the steps and send me an invitation to my email and after I open it, it prompts me for password which I give and says "Attempting to connect", "Still attempting to connect" then it fails. ask me to trouble shoot then says it must be the internet provider or firewall. And even with disabling the firewall, We still can't connect with remote assistance. I am stumped and she is aggravated beyond belief.
