Can't Change System (Windows Logon) Sound
I upgraded (not a clean install) to Win 7 from Vista Ultimate. When I tried to change my system sounds in Win 7 to match those that I had in Vista, all took, except for the Windows Logon sound. Even though I have associated a custom wav to it, what plays is theWin 7/Vista Startup (four-tone) wav, even though it is unchecked. NoWin 7 Windows Logon sound is played.

Robinson Zhang - MSFT said: Windows 7 doesnt support customizing startup sound. Thank you for your reply but I don't believe that it addresses my issue.I am not trying to customize the Win 7 Startup sound; I am trying to customize the Windows Logon sound, as I did in Vista. In certainly seems that the Windows Logon sound is customizable in Win 7, since the specific functionality for doing so is present. Finally, it seems odd that the Win 7 Startup sound plays, even though I have unchecked it.

Hi drtdk, Sorry for my misunderstanding. Yes, I can reproduce the Windows Logon issue on my Windows 7 beta computer. However, I did a test on our latest internal version and it has been fixed. Again, thank you for your feedback. It is due to customers like you who help Microsoft to provide the best possible products in the industry.

Windows 7 doesnt support customizing startup sound. Thank you for your understanding. Hello Robinson (or anyone),I've set custom sounds in Windows Logon, Windows Logoff, and Exit Windows. These all worked fine in Windows Vista but only the Windows Logon sounds plays in Windows 7, and only when logging on a new user - not during boot. Should these be working correctly or has support been removed for these features? If removed, why are these items still included in the sound scheme setup? Thanks, Bill

Windows Logoff and Windows Exit sound assignments work for me but still no luck on Windows Logon. If the user could ever customize the Windows 7 Startup sound, that would solve the issue for me.

The RC release had a bug that you could not disable the startup jingle, fixed for RTM. Uncheck the box. You can change the startup melody by editing the file "imageres.dll" located in WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder using a resource editor.Seasons greetings!

Hallo MrBill3 and drtdkVery interesting. I (and at least one other user) have got the problem that the logon sound doesn't play when I use auto logon. Anything else works fine. So I think Microsoft had a lot of problems, programming this part of windows7. I hope there will be an update soon. @Robinson: ..."best possible products...???mbklrh

I'm having this EXACT same issue with Windows 7 Home Edition (64bit). For some reason I can customize ALL other sounds except Windows Exit, Logon, & Logoff. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
