Can't Access XP Workgroup from Win7 Pro System
I cannot seem to connect from my new Win7 Pro system to my XP Pro system. Both have "Workgroup" as the workgroup name, Network Discovery is Enabled, and I tried setting: Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to "Send LM & NTLM Responses" Nothing seems to work. I can Ping the XP machine, and I remotely run SystemInfo from the Win7 box; but I can't access the shared Root with C$ or adding new shares that have "everyone" permissions. Anyone have any tips they'd like to throw my way? TIA, -Steve-

Hi, Can you access the Windows 7 machine from Windows XP machine? At this stage, you can perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily disable firewall on each machine. 2. Assure the following services are started: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 3. Modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine. a. Click Start and open Control Panel. b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings". c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options: "Turn on Network Discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders", "Turn off password protected sharing" 5. Write down the network computer’s IP address. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\IP address, and then press enter. Can you access the network computer now? If there is any error message, please capture the window and upload it to Skydrive (www.skydrive.live.com) , and then share the link to me.
