Camera app not working with logitech webcam with new windows 8.1 update

My Logitech camera app was working fine before win 8.1 update.

ALL drivers are updated.

Camera works fine when I run Logitech program/software, just won't work with camera app included win windows 8.

I just get a dark screen.

I searched forums.  This appears to be a common problem.  Microsoft Techs just state uninstall camera app and reinstall.  But, this is an app that won't let me reinstall.  Plus, I search Microsoft Store and can't find the camera app.

Any suggestions.

Thanks

Hi,

First, please let me know the Model of your webcam and the full name of the APP you mentioned.

I just find one App for Logitech Camera, you can try if its what you need.

Logitech Camera Controller

http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/logitech-camera-controller/02b3d909-8b3f-49e1-8928-6a92f53e5217

Also, for this issue, it can be caused by driver. I also suggest to remove the driver for Logitech Camera in device manager and click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall this driver.

Hi Kate,

Thank you for your comment.  But, problem is still not fixed.

I'm using Logitech Webcam 600

I followed your instructions above and removed driver and did a scan for hardware changes.

My problem is still not fixed.

The Logitech software works fine.  I just have to pin Logitech to start

I would like to use the camera app provided with Windows 8 (Metro).  But, it doesn't work.

Any other suggestions.

Thank you.

Mike

I am also having the same issue with my camera app. I have a Logitech Pro 9000 Webcam which worked fine in Windows 8. But when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 the Microsoft Camera app just shows a dark screen. No error message and it even counts down when I click on the timer, but theres no pictures taken and no image showing on the screen. When I go to user accounts and click take a picture of me for my login photo the webcam works fine. So clearly a Microsoft issue. The Logitech drivers are installed and the Logitech software shows my pic. But nothing when I click on the Microsoft Camera app. Please help.

Thanks,

Andrew

Yes, I have the exact same problem as Andrew.  It is not a Logitech driver issue.  It is a Microsoft issue.  I wish they could fix.

Hi,

Please try to download and run the app troubleshooter and check.

We can also try to remove and re-install Camera app to see what's going on.

Please try to use Process Monitor to capture the actions when you open up this app.

Microsoft Camera App launches, Camera LED comes on to show active, black screen shows.

Worked ok in Windows 8.

Have tried Multiple drivers,

Tried trouble shooter.

No uninstall option for Microsoft Camera App in 8.1. Please explain process for this. Can not see under Programs and Features or Windows Features.

Desktop Apps work fine.

I have captured a ProcessMonitor log but can not see how to post it here. How do I post attachments?

I have the same problem: It doesn't show any input from the camera (even though it seems to recognize it: unplugging shows "please connect a camera to get started"). Also sometimes it does not show the take video/snapshot buttons and the only right click options available are timer and exposure. If a timer is set it does run a countdown upon pressing the snapshot button, but no picture is taken.

I am using a logitech C905 webcam. It worked on windows 8 and still works with every application (camera software, skype, games) on windows 8.1 except the new camera app.

The troubleshooter didn't fix the problem. Removing or reinstalling this app is a difficult task as it is now build into windows 8.1.

Here is a log for starting and ending the camera process: mediafire.com/download/tih34xz1cwqeet3/Logfile.PML

Has this problem of Windows 8.1 not recognizing webcams been fixed yet?

I updated to 8.1 and my webcam was not recognised (Microsoft Lifecam Cinema) I thought my cam may be faulty so bought a new com (Logitech C270) same problem.

So finally I reinstalled Windows 8 at the cost of losing every thing on my hard drive. I want update as I liked most of 8.1 but will not until I can use my webcams.

I went through all the rigmarole of reinstaling drivers etc. So please dont give be the stock answer of installation as its already been done.

All I need to know is if Microsoft has fixed this problem or not.

Thanks

Same problem here. I checked to see if I could change my account picture and the camera came on. But that's the only app that seems to work. I'm using Windows 8.1.  I don't know if my camera worked with Windows 8 because I never bought 8 but purchase (Alas!) 8.1 and did a clean install. Sure would like to know when there'll be a fix.

I'm having more or less the same issue, but it extends beyond just the app. I'm replying here because this is the topic I was referred to by one of your support members on twitter and I'm trying to help keep things organized so that hopefully one day Microsoft can solve the issue.

I have the Logitech Webcam HD C 525 which worked perfectly fine on my Windows Vista Home Premium machine. I recently built myself a computer and purchased Windows 8.1 complete (I heard that you could chose the OS language and as I'm living overseas I was really happy to finally be able to use Windows in English).
I'm using Windows 8.1 64 bit and got around to installing skype on Christmas eve so I could video chat with my family back home. However, I ran into an annoying issue when trying to use the webcam. I installed the latest drivers and applications clean and straight directly from Logitech, plugged in the webcam and it was not detected.

Following the troubleshooting info from Logitech, I then switched my camera from a USB 3.0 port to a 2.0 one, this shouldn't matter, but I tried it anyway. It changed nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times with no change.

After a bit of reaching out on twitter I had a friend suggest using ONLY the Microsoft drivers for my device. I COMPLETELY removed and deleted the device and drivers from my machine and then installed them using the info found here in the troubleshooting section: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/camera-app-faq.

I plugged my camera back into the 2.0 port and my camera flicked on for 2 seconds (preview included) then shut off again and told me it wasn't detectable. I opened Skype and it seemed ok. When it came time to actually Skype with my family skype could no longer detect my webcam. It flicked on and off briefly and told me it wasn't detectable.

The current state of my webcam is that it is buggy and unreliable. Opening skype or the logitech app or ANY app that uses my camera yields the same result: an endless loop of my camera flickering on and off, and messages of "not detected" between images from my camera. The camera still works on my old computer normally, thus it is not an issue with the camera itself.

I have read many people having my same issue with various webcams (not just Logitech because I briefly considered buying a Microsoft one) and the one thing in common was it was all on Windows 8.1

As posted in a few posts above I downloaded and ran Process Monitor while I opened skype and my camera sat through the endless detect/non-detected issue it has currently. I hope I have the log information saved correctly (if not I can re-do it, it is not difficult to reproduce as it happens all the time). I could not figure out how to copy/pase the information in the log file, so here is a link to my log file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BznPyE0dem06eVJWRWdFVllhQTQ
