C Drive Access Issue - Adminastrator Privledges
I have a problem with Windows Vista. Whenever I want to copy, move, or create a file into or in the C drive, I need adminastrator privledges. My user account is an adminastrator account, so I shouldn't have this problem.I just got this problem a few days ago, and I've had this laptop for a few months. This problem is extremely annoying. Is there any way to fix this? If you know, please respond as soon as possible. Thank you.

Hi, Thank you for your post. Does the system prompt for credential (user name and password of an administrator account) or consent? If it prompt for your consent, the behavior is by design if the following conditions are true: The user account is a member of administrators group but not the built-in administrator account. UAC is enabled on the system. C drive is the system drive, and you tried to copy file to C:\, C:\Windows\ or C:\Program Files\ Cause Analysis: ============== In Windows Vista, when a user who is a member of administrator group logs on, the access token is split into two access tokens (protected by UAC): a full privilege access token and a filtered token. The administrative privileges and user rights in the full administrator access token are filtered away, resulting in the standard user access token. The standard user access token is then used to launch Explorer.exe. If an administrative privilege is required, then the user is prompted for consent. In this issue, administrative privilege is required to copy file to C:\, so the ConsentUI dialog box is presented in order to get the full access token. Workaround:========1. If the system partition is the only partition on the computer, you may create a subfolder under C:\, and then copy files to this subfolder. 2. Alternatively, disable UAC. (It is not recommended.) For your reference, Ive list some documents related to UAC as below: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa905108.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922708 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa906022.aspx Hope it helps.
