CPU usage 100% when RAM upgraded from 2gb to 4 gb
Hi All, I have installed windows 7 on my desktop. I have upgraded RAM(Transcend , 1GBx2 ,667MHZ) to (Transcend , 1GBx2 + 2GBx1 ,667MHZ) i.e. 4 GB. Now all of sudden CPU usage is gone high to 100% and RAM usage is 40%. Not sure how to resolve this issue. Any help is highly appreciable. Thanks, Nilesh

Use the taskmanager in processes mode to see what's taking the cputime. Renee"MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." Me

I'll surely check this. Before that i have one silly question. Why would something will start eating up CPU usage after upgrading the RAM. I have not installed anything after upgrading the RAM. Thanks, NileshThanks, Nilesh

We don't know (and perhaps dont care. It's obviously pathological). A good look at your even't log may also tell you something. Renee"MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." Me

If you see process twice in the taskmanager Something is wrong. The svchost conpaint of this rinky dink OS and will be fixed in version 8. Essentially I believe that's where something has called a DLL. Renee "MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." Me

If the last thing that you did was upgrade the memory have you tried taking out the new memory to see what happens? Robert Mann MCSE, MCSA, HP ASE

Yes .. I tried that. It is working perfect for 3gb ram(1GB old + 2GB new Ram). I checked the specification for this board and it says it supports 4gb ram. Thanks, Nilesh

Hi, Maybe your motherboard only support dual channel memory. So two 1GB memory is fine, and 1GB + 2GB is fine, but 1GB*2 +2GB is not fine. Make sure does your motherboard only support dual channel memory? And if it is possible, please boot with 2*2GB memory for a test. Another suggestion is to update your motherboard driver. Hope that helps.

If it is possible, you may try 2*2GB.

Always a good idea to buy all the ram in one package. Even identical make, mfr, speed, and latency, can not match and cause instability.
