CPU Usage, printing too...
OK, I used the Clean command, thinking it would clean only one disk and it cleaned all of them. So, being frantiic I copied an almost identical system Windows 7 64-Bit system from my laptop and changed the network nodename so far, so good but it ends there. A huge amount of cpu time is takeb by rundll32.exe. It of course is running the real transgressor which I cannot identify. This process appears to be running slightly after boot. How do I tell what it's runing? There is also the matter of not being able to print on my brother HL-5250DN. What say someone please? Renee

I don't think so. I'm sorry, the command was in DISKPART in installing WIND 7. THE COMMAND is not relevant to the question. By the way the printque question is now resolved. Renee

Well I have an issue with what you say. The reference to "clean" as I used it, has been made of an industry wide basis for about 50 years. I only have one performance issue which I have described. Overall you may be coorrect. I may have to go to a new sytem. But then again, I wont learn anything new will I? If I do start over, it's a full week of guaranteed boring work. Renee

I'm more more playful now. After using the process monitor I can tell that the Subsytem involved uses nvidia hardware and that video is involved. Goodness, I wonder what system that is? With that, I am considering a new installation. Renee

Hi, The CPU usage issue should be caused by software confliction. I suggest you temporary disable the antivirus and firewall and then check the result. If the issue persists, please troubleshoot in Clean Boot Mode. Perform a clean startup to determine whether background programs are interfering with your game or program Regarding the printing issue, I suggest we discuss it in a separated thread.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I fully understand what I did. I asked a question which is not to be cofused with the answer you gave whick didn't answer my question at all. Renrr

I know that. However I just gave a suggestion that should be easier for you to find the root cause.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi Renee, please make a xperf trace [1] like I've shown in my guide. Are you able to see what Rundll32 is doing? André [1] http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=140264"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

I've done a new install Author. Had I stopped and thought about it I wouldn't have except for the licensed MS stuff. I think the problem was with the graphics card but ill never know for sure, now. I'm busy with 'details'. Thanks for the help. Renee

By the way. no task was interferred with directly. It was just them whatever the problem was, it was taking away from the idle time of the system. Why am I telling you? You see this for a living. Renee
