CMAK on Windows 7 when REMOVE_GATEWAY
Hello, I created a CMAK VPN connection (tried both with Windows Server 2003 and 2008), wich have added some routes and removed the default gateway using the REMOVE_GATEWAY command, so both intranet and the user's own internet gateway would be available. Now this works fine on Windows XP but it doesn't in Windows 7. When I try to ping an internet host (after connecting to the VPN), I receive the following: C:\Windows\system32>ping google.com Pinging google.com [74.125.87.104] with 32 bytes of data: PING: transmit failed. General failure. Access through the VPN works fine, even to those distant subnets added with CMAK. I tried searching a lot for a solution, but no luck. Maybe you can help...Best Regards, Levente Rog

Dear Novak Wu, Thank you for your kind answer. My problem if far beyond the 'Use default gateway on remote network' issue. My problem is that if I issue a route print, the routing table is perfect, default gateway is oaky, but data won't go through the 0.0.0.0 entry, even if that's there. If I ping the default gateway, the router, that's okay. I repeat that on XP the same connection works okay. I searched through the internet and found out that many people have this problem, but wasn't able to find a solution yet. Best Regards,Levente Rog

I think I found a solution: uncheck the option to "Make this connection the client's default gateway" in the IPv4 settings of the VPN tunnel and everything works as it should. The CMAK documentation advises against this, but in my tests everything is fine, the routing table is populated correctly with the routes in the file and traffic flows just as it should in a split tunnel configuration. I still have the REMOVE_GATEWAY parameter in the routing update file, not sure if it would work without it as well. I tested this on Windows 7 clients, both 32-bit and 64-bit.

Hi Liviu, Is UAC disabled on your Win7 clients, specifically the 64-bit? I am having problems getting a CMAK connection generated from a Win2008 R2 machine to run on my 64-bit Windows 7 machines. Did you use a Win2008 R2 server to generate your CMAK connection for these clients, or something else?
