CANON SAY ITS A MICROSOFT PROBLEM. CANT INSTALL DRIVER
Hello, I have spent 4 days hacking away trying to get my wide format printer running but the frustration continues still. I have read similar posts on this problem but nothing I have tried works. Problem is as follows: I try to install Canon driver but it fails to find printer so I do as instructed and resrart printer or remove and replace USB cable. That action causes windows to install its driver version which will NOT work with my Canon compilation software which requests I install the correct canon driver. And so it continues..... I am using Windows 7 64 bit and the canon driver is compatible. The software app is Canon PosterArtist which is also 64 bit compatible. I hope there is a genius out there that can save me. If the printer works with the Windows built-in drivers except not with the Canon PosterArtist app you may have to install a Printer Driver Add-On Module which may be available for the printer, for the app to recognize the printer. What Canon printer do you have?

I see from this thread that you have the ipf6100 printer. There does not appear to be an add-on module available but the Windows 7 drivers available from Canon should allow the PosterArtist app to work. Try this, to stop Windows 7 from overwriting the Canon driver: Start > Devices and Printers > right-click the Computer icon > Device installation settings > then select "No, let me choose what to do" and then select "Never install driver software from Windows Update" > Save changes More info: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2803-device-installation-settings.html

The issue occurs because the printer driver is not compatible with Windows 7. From the following website we can see that Windows 7 is not compatible with the printer.
