Build 7100 - Internet Access
OK - How I got to where I am:(1) Using Acronis, I imaged my Vista 64 SP1 install to a new/clean partition on a separate drive, and set the system up for dual boot. Verified both work normally.(2) Upgraded one of the images to Win 1 build 7100, as requested by MSFT in the MSDN blog. No other settings have been sullied with, except as detailed below:(3) Now: The Vista 64 install is working as it as been: I can see the rest of the computers in the house, access the Internet, etc etc etc...(4) Win 7: *Very* limited access - I can use Ventrilo (VOIP program) to reach out on the internet to communicate to other people. But no browsers or other programs appear to work.(5) So I tried the obvious and disabled the Firewall completely to see if it was a setting issue. No Joy - Same issue as before(6) Win 7's troubleshooting says the Internet is there, but that a remote device is refusing the connection. So I called my ISP on the theory that they may have flagged my Win 7 install as not authorized on their network. But no.(7) A little browsing says there may be an issue with now IPv6 is working, so I disabled that - No Joy. Currently re-enabled.(8) Enabling and disabling Homegroup has no effect, either.Any suggestions as to where to go from here?

maybe start with an ipconfig /all and post it here..and maybe add an ping / trace to i.e. www.maxping.org or whatever you prefer...cheers,Ralf--- Ralf Huelsmann - http://www.huelsmann.name senior consultant business solutions @ it2s.biz , MS gold partner me: http://www.linkedin.com/in/ralfhuelsmann - https://www.xing.com/profile/Ralf_Huelsmann2 Founder & editor at http://www.maxping.org

since you cant ping external hosts / have a DNS issue:- i have no clue, wether WIN 7 or your router does not completly respects the standard- you could try a workarround:chek for a public/free DNS or (better) use the public DNS-server of your provider instead of the one of your router.cheers,Ralf--- Ralf Huelsmann - http://www.huelsmann.name senior consultant business solutions @ it2s.biz , MS gold partner me: http://www.linkedin.com/in/ralfhuelsmann - https://www.xing.com/profile/Ralf_Huelsmann2 Founder & editor at http://www.maxping.org

Ok. I have Windows 7 build 7100(RC) and I have the same problem. Do you use a Wireless Router? If you do, do you have WEP encryption turned on? I have dug deep into this problem on my system and have finally concluded that Windows 7 can't encrypt data(IP packets)properly. But if you're using ethernet, then you shouldn't have any problems. But if you do, check if your router settings have encryption turned on, and if so, turn it off!Hope Iwas ofsomehelp :-)

Ajay - It's a wireless router, but the problem PC is physically connected via the usual cat 5 cable. I'm using the wireless for the rest of the house. I know Encryption is off for sure because the Mac****** didn't like it.DJ - I'll try that when I get home. And yes, I have Office installed. Kind of curious to hear what that has to do with a networking problem, actually :)

Well I know it sound kind of odd that the Office updates should cause this error and to be honest I don't really know if it is actually the Office Updates or the fact that Microsoft updates are enabled that causes this error. I have sucessfully fixed an error with same kind of symptomes by restoring windows to before installing Office and then installed Office again and then, before stating any office programs, disable the microsoft updates. Now try to restart your computer and see if that works :) Please let me know what happends?

The following seemed to have solved the problem on Build 7000, Windows Vista and later use randomised identifiers for IPv6 addresses. You can configure this from the command line with the following command: netsh interface ipv6 set global randomizeidentifiers Or to switch it off (as it should be) netsh interface ipv6 set global randomizeidentifiers=disabled ( makes the NIC get an autoconfigured IPv6 address that conforms to RFC 2464, as Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris and *BSDs do.)

Thanks for the suggestions guys, - but so far nothing has worked. At this point, I'm planning on wiping and reformatting the partition and starting again from scratch.

Make sure you keep you network adapter ON during install and do report back about how the install went!
