Browser or Explorer windows scrolls to the bottom of the page!!!
My hdd crashed recently and I was forced to do a clean reinstall, on a new hdd, Windows XP SP2. It was the same original Windows XP Installation CD I used before. After installation of Windows XP SP2, I turned on the Automatic Updates feature just like what I did before. I also installed all device drivers. This time, I noticed something different. Whenever I open any browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox or Chrome), or Windows Explorer / My Computer, and when the information is more than what the screen can fit, the screen will scroll to the Bottom of the Page. Even if I go back to the Top Of Page, the screen will again scroll back to the Bottom or End of Page. You will notice the movement in the "slider" at the right side. It will just move up and down, up and down. It is very annoying. Some users have termed this phenomenon as "Jumping Cursor". I was wondering, perhaps because I haven't installed SP3. Microsoft Update feature took care of that. Even after SP3 has been installed, the same annoying Jumping Cursor / Scrolling Screen is still there. Maybe it was the Logitech mouse or Logitech keyboard. Though they were the same keyboard and mouse I used before I reinstalled Windows XP and I didn't have any problems, I downloaded and installed the latest device drivers. It didn't solve the problem. I said then, perhaps because I haven't activated Windows XP. What I did next was to perform another clean install. Aside from that I got a new keyboard and mouse, this time from Nortek. I repeated the steps plus I activated Windows XP, now with SP3. Still the Jumping Cursos / Scrolling Screen phenomenon still exists. In fact, typing this description is a bit annoying since this entry screen (which is just about 7 lines top to bottom), keeps on scrolling up and down. My PC configuration is as follows: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600, Intel Motherboard DG33FB, 4GB RAM (Kingston 2x2GB), 500 GB SATA Seagate Barracuda 7200 HDD, 512 MB Inno3D NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS PCIE display card, Samsung DVD-RW with Ligthscribe SATA DVD drive, SAA7130 PCI TV Card, 500W psu, 22" Viewsonic VX2255 LCD Monitor with built-in webcam. The only thing new here is the HDD which used to be 160GB Seagate SATA HDD. I tried other HDDs. Another 160GB SATA, and a 320GB IDE. Each HDD, each time a clean install. The results were the same. Rebooting doesn't solve the problem. And I can't see a solution from the Microsoft Knowledge Base. There's no virus or malware in my system. I've also installed Norton Internet Security 2010 with all the latest updates installed. Has anyone encountered this phenomenon? How did you solve it?

After your clean install did you then install drivers from your hardware makers and NOT MsUpdate? Did you also amend MS Update for Critical Updates ONLY, and then only start installing apps once MS Critical updates and finally finished its thing (which likely will have involved 2/3 reboots to complete critical updates)

I only used the software device drivers that came with my hardware. After installing the device drivers, I also installed Norton Internet Security 2010 and performing LiveUpdate, before connecting to the Internet to activate Windows XP Home and to turn on MS-Update. I'm not sure which Windows updated first since it downloaded critical updates only. It was after the first update that I observed the phenomenon. I purposely didn't browse the Internet until the critical updates were finished. Is there a way to correct this phenomenon? Would rolling back to the time before the first critical update was done eliminate the problem? It's not only the browsers that are affected. All applications including MS-Office are affected as long as the infois more than a screen-full.
