Browser Jump List items bypassing firewall rules
I recently tried to block social networking pages in the office and have noticed that if an employee has been on one of these sites at home and saves that webpage visit and pins it to the jump list when they arrive back in the office it bypasses the firewall rule, does anyone know how windows 7 saves the items in jump lists? i.e is it saved as an IP address?

Hi, First, I would like to know how you blocked the block social networking pages via firewall? Since some websites may have different IP address, I suggest you need to disable them all. The user may resolve another website IP address at home or use proxy to access this website, so this issue should not related to jump list. More reference about Jump list Jump Lists http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/jump-lists Windows Taskbar: Frequently Asked Questions http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd799239(v=WS.10).aspx Group Policy Settings for Start Menu and Taskbar: Do not allow pinning items in Jump Lists: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee617162(v=WS.10).aspx Furthermore, you can refer to the following link to block the website via GPO http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2010/07/how-to-use-group-policy-to-allow-or-block-urls/ Hope it helps. Hello, I blocked the keywords facebook, proxies and proxy via the router and also all personal sites through the web content filter on the router. I have been on said machine and tried typing in these keywords and they are all blocked and also on all other machines but noticed that they were still gaining access to facebook. Once i noticed this i logged onto their machine and checked to ensure no proxy servers were being used through their LAN settings which they were not. So i tried right clicking on the browser icon along the bottom of windows 7 to have the jump list pop up and facebook was there so clicked on it and it opened no problem. This is what leads me to think that the way windows 7 stores its web pages in the jump list is done through an IP and not through a domain.

Hi, Since you are using router to block the facebook, I suggest you can try the steps in my previous post to use the GPO to block these websites, which could assure the jump list not bypassing the policy. http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2010/07/how-to-use-group-policy-to-allow-or-block-urls/ Regards Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support
