Browser Issue: Outlook Hijacked by Google Chrome and Google browser
I had used Google Earth under different Windows OS's and different IE browsers with out incident.
Secveral weeks ago after a windows update
the computer rebooted to not being able to find an OS (win7 Ult)(no directory), and I had also lost a directory on an external HD( which I was able to recover with DiskCheck).
I Fdisked my C/ HD. and started re-install. Yesterday I reinstalled Google Earth, and Without any promps Google installed both Google earth, Google chrome, and the google "browser". I found this out when after re-boot when I tried to access the internet
through a Outlook email hyperlink and received the error "this operation has been cancled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.
deep in the bowels of TechNet I found the following fix:
Dear All
i just try the following solution and all thing are working perfectly, by making some changes to your registry keys (please only edit reg keys if you are familiar/comfortable with
your system). Thanks to 'Nakro' and 'nondescript' for their helpful instructions provided below!
Restore registry settings in the User Profile:
1. Click Start, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate the following subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
3. On the File menu, click Export.
4. In the Export Registry File dialog box, enter HKCU_Classes_HTML_Backup.reg and click Save.
Note: This will create a backup of this registry key in the My Documents folder by default.
5. Right click the (Default) value for the .html key and select Modify...
6. Change the value from "ChromeHTML" to "htmlfile"
Repeat steps 1-6 for .htm and .shtml keys if they exist, remember to change the name of your backup file for each export.

Hi Henry,
First, I would like to confirm that if you are still encountered the problem when accessing the internet through the Outlook email hyperlink and received
the error "this operation has been cancled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.”
If this is the case, please refer to the following KB article:
You receive an error message when you click a hyperlink in Outlook

I was trying to access any hyperlink in any email, and some saved hyperlinks on my desktop.
I removed some 1000 references to google that were in the registry by hand (and not removed by uninstalling all Google Aps) and that was no help, I then applied the above fix and everything worked as it previously had.

Your thread makes little sense.
In the Google Earth Setup there are options to disable the Google Toolbar, Chrome etc as we do not allow these add-ons either.
Instead of the manual removal of the registry keys you could of gone to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and Google Chrome etc would be there and remove a considerable number of the Google Reg Keys.
The opening of the HTML's from the desktop I have not seen before thoughLee Bowman MCITP MCTS

After many uneventful installs of Google Earth there were no, I repeat NO options given, and no indication that the tool bar or the
browser were going to be installed !!!!!!

This isn't Microsoft you're addressing; this is a peer support forum.
We are all just users of this version of Windows here, helping each
other if and when we can. We are not Microsoft employees (not even
those of us with "Microsoft MVP" behind our names; that's an honorary
title for having provided consistently helpful advice) except for an
occasional employee.
If you want to complain to Microsoft about something, please contact
them directly. Trying to do it here is just a waste of (figurative)
breath.

Hello Henry,
The option is provided in the Downloads page itself and not in the program install, that is probably why you missed it.
Look for two check boxes on the page where you agree to Download google Earth software. You should see two options to 1. Include Chrome and 2. Make it default browser. I did not find an option for the toolbar however, for me it did not install any additional
toolbars anyway.
If you are not satisfied with the way they bundle software or provide opt-out options, you should ideally take this up with the software vendor and provide them feedback.
This forum deals with security/malware issues. Since we are not dealing with any malware, we are unable to help about the software.
