Boot time: Question on enabling memory dump and enabling kernel debugging through NET port

Do enabling memory dump or enabling kernel debugging slows down the boot of Windows so it takes more time to boot ?

I have this question for a normal Windows image and a VHD version of Windows.

I guess that I am not clear on the question.

However, would I have kernel debugging enabled if I was doing boot performance testing?  Absolutely not.

I would expect the additional overhead of the debugging output to impact performance in some way.

It is no different than I will not test an application with symbols or development dependencies installed.  It does not reflect reality.

Suppose the boot time for a Windows OS is 5-10 seconds.

If I enable the memory dump feature and If I do the BCDEdit and configure the settings for kernel debugging in the OS and see the debug details through a host PC, will the boot time increase to, may be 20 seconds is my question.

Hi Akhil,

There is a new feature called fast boot in Windows 8.1.If we don`t perform a cold boot ,I think enable this feature won`t  impact the boot performance much. Here is link for refrence of this feature, the other contents about the booting process should also be useful .

As for a cold booting ,it is really hard to give a clear detailed time because the environment of the machine is different and the hardware performance is different .If you want to figure out how it will impact the boot performance .We can work with the Windows performance Toolkit. It will show us a detailed information of the boot performance .
Here is the link for reference of the whole process.
Measure Boot Performance with the Windows Assessment and Deployment Toolkit

We can run this tool with and without enabling this feature ,then compare the results.

Best regards
