Boot manager of Windows 7 is disappeared
I have both Windows 7 and XP installed. There was a menu on start up to choose which windows to boot (windows 7 boot manager), but when I did repair for windows XP, the menu doesn't appear now, and the system boot directly to windows XP, and I don't know how to boot to windows 7 without the menu. Please any one can help?

Thanks, but I don't have Windows 7 disc right now. What's the line to add to boot.ini so windows 7 can appear?

Hi Assem Kh, Since Windows Vista, the boot environment has been completed changed. For more information, please refer to Boot Configuration Data in Windows Vista and Boot Options in Windows Vista and Later. Therefore, editing boot.ini cannot resolve this issue. Since the Windows 7 disc is not available, we can use a third party software named EasyBCD to check this issue. Please refer to the thread: WIndows 7 & XP to troubleshoot this issue. However, if the issue persists after using EasyBCD, you may need to reinstall Windows 7 to resolve this issue. Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. Regards, Linda

I have installed EasyBCD, I've changed the default boot to Windows 7, but it's still boot to XP, I'm not sure if the changes apply to the system when I click save, and seems the Windows 7 bootloader in not the active one. Is there another way? here are the overview of EasyBCD: There are a total of 2 entries listed in the Vista Bootloader. Bootloader Timeout: 30 seconds. Default OS: Windows 7 Entry #1 Name: Windows XP BCD ID: {ntldr} Drive: C:\ Bootloader Path: \ntldr Entry #2 Name: Windows 7 BCD ID: {default} Drive: D:\ Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Windows Directory: \Windows

Assem Chkdsk /f /r might also recover the bootmgr if would be the problem, restoring windows xp at an earlier time could help as the bootmgr is located on C: and anything would have got your computer unable to see and boot Windows 7 also is going to "undo" its actions if didn't delete anything and most important if Windows XP allows the operation(finds an earlier restore point).

I've been fighting a similar problem. Two things to verify. 1. Only one disk is marked "active" in disk manager. In this case, make Windows 7 the active disk. 2. The one that got me....in my BIOS< there is a menu after Boot Priority (this only affects which drive type is scanned first) called simply "Hard Disk Drives". Oddly enough, this menu had my XP hdd as Disk 1 (Sata ID 4), and my Windows 7 HDD as Disk 2 (SATA ID 1). I reversed the order so that the the Windows 7 disk would be scanned first - and was then able to use the Windows 7 repair tool to fix my bootloader.
