Bluetooth capability disappears after ~48 hours from OS install
This has happened 3 times on a Dell Vostro 1700 laptop with integrated bluetooth. Install Win7 Beta (7000)OS cold Add Device -> shows PDA and Jabra headset. Connect to PDA (Cingular8525/HTC) with bluetooth PDA shows in All Devices and/or filtered for just Bluetooth Devices All Devices displays the laptop AND an HID device that has context menus for BT, Network, Mouse, and keyboard. If I disable BT in the BIOS, this device does not appear. WMDC syncs just fine with Outlook 2007. 24-48 hours later, after much other laptopsetup and loading has been done, something makes the bluetooth device disappear. The PDA is no longer shown in all devices display The HID device context menu has a BlueTooth Settings item, but it no longer does anything. The Bluetooth Devices Icon in the tray also has a Bluetooth Settings item, but it also does not work. System Restore to a time when the device was working fails to restore the bluetooth capability. Wipe the disk and start over .... I tried disabling the BT in the BIOS, rebooted, and confirmed the HID was not there anymore.Enabled the BT in the BIOS and on reboot the HID was there again, but the BT capability was still not there.I have deleted the Dell TrueMobil 355 + EDR device in Device Manager. The driver is version 6.1.7000.0 dated 6.21.2006 and appears to come from Windows Update when the device is reinstalled.I also at one time during one of the cold loads got the same driver from Dell and used it, but it appeared to me that Win7 always used the WindowsUpdate version. After failure, I tried switching the driver to the generic bluetooth driver, but no joy.The last time the device disappeared, I had changed the drive letter for two three drives (internal SD used for ReadyBoost, DVD drive, and an External USB drive used for backup.I thought that the image I had taken several hours before this last failure was done at a time when the BT was working, but the actual confirmed time I used it was the previous evening, 12 hours earlier. Restore of this image after the last failure did not fix the problem; but I can't be 100% positive the device was working when it was taken (it had been working for a while, so I stopped paying close attention, and went on to other things before taking the image backup). It appears to me that the outer layers of the system thinks there is no BT device, although there is one present at the Device Manager Level (and the MS BT enumerator and the WM-based device support).I can't even manually run the BT cpl. Very frustrating. I'm not going thru another cold load of this laptop unless somebody has some definitive troubleshooting steps to take or a new build of the OS. But any suggestions of where to look would be greatly appreciated.-Dan D-

Of course, moments after I post a problem, I immediately find the resolution to said problem.Services -> BlueTooth Support Service was found not running, and set to Manual. RESOLUTION: Manual starting the service made the PDA device show up and the BT cpl start working.I'll try making it Automatic start and report back if that doesn't permanently fix the problem. Whew. Now I can get on with my life. -Dan D-

I have RC Build 7100. I have Dell Latitude D820 with Internal bluetooth card 350. I tried to do everything above (including running the service, etc...) The bluetooth icon still disappears. Whenever i restart i see it for a while & then it's gone (whether i opened my bluetooth headphones or not)At the device manager i can't see the bluetooth card device . It's something like it's totally disappers. Any help t that please ? I can't work without my headphones on.Thank you!RemonCEO - DashSoft (www.dashsoft.com)

Yes, I am also seeing this issue, same build release but with my Asus V6J laptop. It was there and seemed to be working, now I can't get it to dislay in the device manager or anything... I would also be keen for anyone's idea's. I want to connect to my mobile phone. Jim

I'm also faced with same problem. I'm running RC1 on Dell D820 with built-in Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module. After install, bluetooth was installed and showing icon in notification area. I've tried to pair with logitech mouse but it would not find any devices. After reboot bluetooth disappeared completly. I tried Dan's fix without success. Hopefully it's just small bug.
