Blue screen with the following error SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION (ACPL.sys)

Hi,

I had a blue screen with SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION (ACPL.sys) error message yesterday.

It happened right after the graphic card update was completed. I have an HP Spectre XT laptop with Windows 8 and Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.

After restart, I noticed that the available free space on my hard disk dropped by 4 GB!

Can you please assist?

Thank you.

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
WE NEED AT LEAST TWO DMP FILES TO SPOT TRENDS AND CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS. You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking. If you are overclocking stop.  (chances are if you dont know if you are, you are not)a To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.  We need at least 2 DMP FILES to diagnose and confirm The procedure: * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine. * Zip up the copy. * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button. (if available on  your site, MS doesnt have this)  *Please upload them to a file sharing service like Skydrive or"Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply. Link for how to  upload below. http://www.wikihow.com/Use-SkyDrive To ensure minidumps are enabled: * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter. * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button. * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked. * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies). * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump. * OK your way out. * Reboot if changes have been made. Please also run MSinfo32 and upload the output as well. To run MSinfo32 please go to start>run>MSinfo32 Go to "file" "save" and upload the saved file with the DMPS System specs are extremely useful so please include whatever you know.

They was only one DMP in the past 90 days (the others older so they cannot be used).

This one was related to dne64x.sys.  This is your Citrix deterministic Network Ehancer miniport or cisco systems VPN client.  Yours is from 2008 and cant possibly work in win 8.  I would update to current or remove it.

I would also remove Symantec and use the built in Defender (at least until the crashes stop)

Symantec  is a frequent cause of BSOD's.
I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

Other old driver needing updating

How To Find Drivers:

Search
Google for the name of the driver
Compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
Visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
If there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program

The most common drivers are listed on these pages:

Thank you for the reply and information.

I will see what can be done and if anything is required I will reply back.

But why the available disk space dropped by 4GB? What can cause this, what and how to do to rectify this issue?

Regards.

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:

Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here (if you can) to skydrive or a file sharing service

Not a single reference to disk space or anything else relevant.  Perhaps the 4 gigs were a restore point.

Most of the event viewer errors were for these two.
