Blue Screen and auto restart on coming out of hibernation - XP service pack 2
I use XP Service Pack 2. The system goes into automatic hibernation, and when I 'un-hibernate' it, either by re-opening the lap-top or presing the power button, the operating system starts to wake up, and then I get a blue screen error and it shuts down and restarts. When I then log in, Windows tells me that the system has recovered from a serious error. It never used to do this, but now it is every time it hibernates.Any advice on how to fix this problem?

There were several hibernation realated issues fixed in Windows XP Service Pack 3 and SP2 is no longer supported (that means there will be no more fixes). Here is a list of the Windows XP fixes in SP3:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946480Is there some reason you are not current on your XP Service Pack? You have not provided much information about your system or any details from your Blue Screen which leaves only guesses about what the problem might be.Here is a BSOD example showing information you need to provide:http://techrepublic.com.com/i/tr/downloads/images/bsod_a.jpgSend the information pointed to with the red arrows (3-4 lines total). Send the entire *** STOP message line since there are clues in the 4 parameters.Skip the boring text unless it looks important to you. We know what a BSOD looks like, we need to know what your BSOD looks like.Sometimes Stand By and Hibernation issues are related to outdated video drivers, so please do this to provide the following additional information about your system:Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. For video driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information. Finally, you could also recreate your c:\hiberfil.sys file - perhaps it is affflicted. The c:\hiberfil.sys file is the file that XP pays attention to when it is coming out of hibernation, so just tell XP to make new one.To do that, click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Power Options, click the Hibernate tab anduncheck the Enable hibernation box and click OK (that will delete the current c:\hiberfil.sys file). Then enable hibernation again and restart your computer. Finally, test your hibernation and startup again.Do, or do not. There is no try.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!
