Blank MICROSOFT window at startup; everything else loads fine
After the numerous tries at installing IE8, the latest didn't work. Now, at startup, everything loads fine but I get a blank window which indicates MICROSOFT and has a toolbar and nothing else. It appears that IE8 partially downloaded. I did get the BING and MSN toolbars downloaded and installed on IE7 but I have removed them since I don't want them. How do I get rid of the blank MICROSOFT window at startup? I've looked at msconfig but won't know which application this is. Thank you!1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi,· By blank Microsoft Windows, do you mean the desktop (not able to see any icons)?· What did you do in msconfig?· Does this happen in Safe mode? Method 1:If you are referring to desktop then, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below.a. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete on the keyboard simultaneously to open the Task Manager Window.b. Click on Process tab and check whether the explorer.exe process is running.c. If it is not running then click on File and then click on New.d. Type explorer.exe in the text box and click on OK.e. Check whether the desktop appears as normal. Method 2:Check whether the issue persists in safe mode. Follow the steps mentioned below.a. Restart the system and keep tapping F8 till you reach the boot menu.b. Select Safe mode from the list and press Enter. Method 3:If the issue does not persist in safe mode, then I would suggest you to do a clean boot. How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" statehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Note: Put the system in Normal Startup by following the steps mentioned in ‘Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state’ section.
