Black screen with pointer on boot
I am having an issue with the black screen with only the pointer present. When attempting to boot I get the windows 7 welcome screen then rather than going to the login screen is simply goes black with pointer. I tried both the fixmbr and fixboot commands in command prompt from disk but problem remains. Any ideas for me? Thanks

have you ran a startup repair from the disk? if not run this. also from disk if you go to command prompt and do the following chkdsk c:\ /f /r note: (c:\ being the drive the OS is located on.) (also it may just be c: and the \ is not needed i cant remember so if above does not work try without \ so it is just chkdsk c: /f /r) also try running the below sfc /scannow what happens if you boot into safe mode? (tap f8 as the computer is first turned on to get advanced boot menu then select safe mode)

Does your video card have dual outputs? If so, try moving the monitor to the other output. Very early on in the Win7 beta phase, some people where having the same issue. Turns out the log-on screen was on the other "ghost" display.
