Black screen upon boot after updating nvidia geforce 8600M GT driver running XP home with Bootcamp 3.1 on MacBook Pro dual boot
My computer is a 15" MacBook Pro Intel Core2 Duo dual boot running Windows XP Home. I recently updated Bootcamp to 3.1 which caused a major graphics display problem: the screen resolution was fixed at 640 x 480 and wouldn't properly fit all of the interface into the screen, which makes it difficult to use to completely unusable. I eventually figured out to roll back the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT driver from the current 197 to the previous 195 version. This made everything work again. XP, the interface, and all my applications worked fine. However, a couple of my applications asked me to update the driver, and I simply got stupidly curious. So, I turned on system restore, backed up my XP partition using Winclone and tried to update the driver again. This time the problem is even worse. Upon booting into XP the screen goes black and I have no access to the OS at all. Is it still possible to roll back the graphics card driver without wiping the partition, completely reinstalling XP through bootcamp assistant, and then reloading my clone? I have the XP install dvd, but am not sure how to proceed with it. Thanks1 person got this answerI do too

Ok, I solved my own problem. I managed to resolve this issue by booting in safe mode using my install cd. This got me to the user interface home screen where I was able to access the nvidia folder and reinstall the previous version of the driver. Hope this helps anyone else out there with a similar problem. Good luck.
