Black Screen With No Cursor After Windows 10 Install
I installed windows 10 on my HP laptop and it seemed to work okay for a few hours with a few shortcuts on the main screen missing. After I closed the lid, it went into sleep mode and has never recovered. I can power down by holding the power button, but when I power up again, all I get is a black screen, with no mouse pointer. How can I get to safe mode, or get any screen function back so I can get rid of Windows 10 forever?

Hi

Based on my research, there are many reasons could lead to the black screen after waking Windows from sleep mode, such as driver issue, boot files corrupted or the power settings and so on. As you state your problem in the case, I infer the most possible reason for the black screen after installing Windows 10 is the graphic cards driver issue due to I have ever met the quite similiar problem as yours. You can attempt to update your display driver to troubleshoot the issue.

Firstly, because it is black screen, you have to boot into safe mode to uninstall the old driver so that Windows could start normally. You can only use recovery media to boot into safe mode because you cant do any operation due to the black screen.

1. Create a Windows 10 recovery media by referring the link below.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-usb-recovery-drive

Please Note: Although the steps in the link is applied to Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, it still applied to Windows 10

2. Insert the media tool to the PC which is black screen and boot into Windows Recovery Environment. Then click See more keyboard layouts > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Enable safe mode > Restart.

3. After Windows rebooting, you can choose Enable Safe Mode by pressing F4.

In safe mode, you can uninstall the network driver and display adapter driver in device manager. Then if you can boot into the normal Windows, I suggest you can update your display card driver in Device Manager. Just right click This PC > Manage > Device Manager > Display adapters, then right click the adapter > Update driver software.

Also, you can download the latest driver version for Windows 10 in official website and install it.

Please kindly let me know whether the solution works for your issue or not. If not, there may other reasons for the issue, we will help you to analyze and troubleshoot after you reply.

Best Regards

Simon
