Bitlocker repair-bde
Hello,
i have encrypted a partion of my harddrive using bitlocker. Caused by other reasons I had to reinstall Windows 7. After that the encrypted partion was empty and the bitlocker console stated this partition is not encrypted. Therefor I wanted to decrypt the
partition using repair-bde.
However, the result was not satisfying. The tool works well, the restore key is accepted and I do not receive any error -but:
If the Outputvolume is another harddisk connected via USB I can not access the disk afte decryption. Windows tells me, the disk is not formated. Therefor the suggested chkdsk command does also not work.
Here my input and the reulst from the Command window:
C:\>repair-bde y: f: -rk c:\Bitlocker\70F0ED8B-16A9-4F92-BDE2-85298CF8FA26.BEK -force

ACTION REQUIRED: Run 'chkdsk f: /f' before viewing decrypted data.
C:\>chkdsk f: /f
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted.
I tried to decrypt into an image file which also seems to work fine (no errors) but if I want to open or use the image file I still receive an error.
Any suggestons, what I can do to decrypt my drive?

Looks bad as you do not have a backup.
I have looked into this problem time and time again. Bitlocker is not a backup drive
When you installed Windows over, the partition tables changed

How can I recover the partition tables?

if the partition tables are trashed, you have lost your data
bitlocker should only be used with an active directory setup (servers galore) so that recovery is not a sick joke

Big thanks for your quick reply!
However,I don't really get the meaning of "trashed". I just installed win8 customer preview over win7,and made no changes to my bitlocer partition, in this situation, is my bitlocker partition trashed?
Really hope not!

probably made it even worse
bitlocker is meant for corporate types with a battalion of servers and employees in the field who tend to lose machines
its not suitable for a consumer who lacks the sophistication needed

I am so sad.
That's all my memory of my 3-year high school, the best slice of my life.
But I don't understand.
Since repair-bde.exe can regonize the metadata and decrypted the partition successfully, doesn't that suggest my data is still there? Why can't I view them?

that is due to corruption of the disk, see if you can get it to remove bitlocker completely

Though I don't quiet understand what do you mean by "get it to remove bitlocker completely", THANKS YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT! It means a lot to me.
I will spare every effort to fix it, no matter how much time it may cost.
Data unreadable is not like thedeath of people, isn't it? As long as we don't give up, there must be a way to make it!
Thank you again!

if repair-bde cannot fix it, there are no other tools.

Problem solved! My solution:Use Winhex(a software, not free but you can use the most functions with trial version) to OPEN the currupted disk(partition) ,and find the sector which ends with "55AA",and then use Diskgenius(a software) to edit the starting
sector of partition to the one ending with "55AA", save. And then windows will regonize the partition as a bitlocker encryted partition automatically, unlocke your partition and finally you will see your data safe and sound. Regards
