Bitlocker performance
Hi. Does anybody have a feeling about performance of bitlocker (meaning how much of a hit to performance) does 128 or 256 but encryption entail? If you have a really zippy processor (e.g. quad core extreme 3.6GHz), would the hit be negligible?Thanks/jim

I am using it on my tablet that is not running a high profile CPU (Dual Core 1.2 Ghz) and the performance it is hardly noticable. The official statement is that the performance penalty will be about 5%. 128 bit AES encryptiohn should privide enough security for a 'normal' user.Ray

Yes I'm suprised there aren't more benchmarks on this but from what I was able to find Microsoft suggests going with the default 128 bit so I'm guessing the performance hit isn't negligible. I haven't tried 256 but I am using 128bit on my quadcore with a 2TB drive and I don't notice any difference from before I started using bitlocker on the drive. It did take forever to encrypt once I enabled bitlocker on it (several hours) but it's supposed to be a one time thing.
