Hi Rizwan, I suggest you first try the following steps: 1. Click Start, type "cmd" in "Search programs and files".2. Right click on "cmd.exe" icon and choose "Run as Administrator".3. Type the following command to check the status in command prompt window. Cscript C:\windows\system32\manage-bde.wsf –status 4. Then, you can use the following command: Cscript C:\windows\system32\manage-bde.wsf –off D: (where D refer to the partition, you want to decrypt.) If you encounter any problem during the procedure, please let me know.Sean Zhu - MSFT

Hi, thanks for the update. From the result, we can find that the volume is locked: ERROR: The operation cannot be performed because the volume is locked. I suggest you use the command to unlock it first. Below is my example on how to unlock the encrypted drive: C:\Windows\system32>cscript manage-bde.wsf -unlock D: -recoverypassword 663476-6 75928-162613-019481-087318-052591-699325-060225 Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.8 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. BitLocker Drive Encryption: Configuration Tool version 6.1.7600 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. WARNING: The script manage-bde.wsf is not supported. Please use manage-bde.exe. The password successfully unlocked volume D:. Note: recoverypassword is saved to a file or printed before encrypting the drive. In my example: BitLocker Drive Encryption Recovery Key The recovery key is used to recover the data on a BitLocker protected drive. To verify that this is the correct recovery key compare the identification with what is presented on the recovery screen. Recovery key identification: E4ABFD19-C813-46 Full recovery key identification: E4ABFD19-C813-46FF-AFBD-3834E50EB398 BitLocker Recovery Key: 663476-675928-162613-019481-087318-052591-699325-060225 If this is successfully done, you can try turning Bitlocker off: C:\Windows\system32>cscript manage-bde.wsf -off D: Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.8 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. BitLocker Drive Encryption: Configuration Tool version 6.1.7600 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. WARNING: The script manage-bde.wsf is not supported. Please use manage-bde.exe. Decryption is now in progress. After that, Bitlocker is turned off on the drive.Meanwhile, you can refer to the following KB article for further information: How to use the BitLocker Repair Tool to help recover data from an encrypted volume in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928201Hope this helps! Hi, from the post on Wednesday, February 03, 2010 8:18 AM, it seems that you can use the command successfully. However, from the latest log, there is little useful information for us to continue this troubleshooting. Do you mean there isn't detail information after entering all the commands? Have you found the recovery key like what I listed in my example?Sean Zhu - MSFT

Hi all Hi Manoj Sehgal thank you for your response. I am using Windows7 64-bit as an operating system, I've tried the method you suggested it gives me the same result. The hard drive in question its power has cut off twice during BitLocker installation and afterwords it stopped responding. When I put in the password the BitLocker keeps on saying "the driver is not ready" and it doesn't unlock at all. I tried all the methods that been suggested in this thread. Please can you guys tell me what else I can do to retrieve my data its about 350GB worth of data on that drive, I really don't want to reformat It I have valuable data on that hard disk. Please Please help!! Steps to retrieve data. We have to use repair-bde command and try if we can extract the data from G Drive. Keep in mind, this process will take hours and might take a day also. Pre-requisites: You have to have a portable disk of at least the same amount of size as the G drive or more. If G drive was 100 GB, you will have to get 100 GB on a volume to be used. This space will be used to create the replica of G drive. Open elevated command prompt and run the below command. Ø Repair-bde G: T: -rp “xxxxx-xxxxx-“ -f –lf c:\repair.txt Where G is the drive letter of the volume from where we have to extract data. T is the volume of the Portable disk where we want to put the data. -rp is 48 digit recovery password. -lf is log file location -f force dismount Ø After this is completed, run chkdsk /f /r on T drive, before accessing the data. Repair-bde command reference http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee706528(WS.10).aspx Regards, Manoj Sehgal
