Bitlocker issue
Hi, i have enabled bitlocker on a virtual machine using a floppy disk at the boot. everything works. If i try instead to enter in the administrative share of the encripted drive i enter successfully with no problem. Is it normal being an Admin of the encrypted machine or i have forgotten something in the configuration steps? Thanks

Once you logon to that virtual machine, the drive is essentially decrypted. UNC shares are not protected by bitlocker if the machine is booted. I hope I am understanding your question correctly.

Are you expecting the drive to prompt for another protector and it's not? It sounds like you only have a startup key protector based on the floppy drive and if thats the case, then the behavior you're seeing is expected. The drive was decrypted once your protector was validated. Here's a link on architeture that might explain more of what you're seeing and why: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732774(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_SystemDesign--Joseph [MSFT] http://blogs.technet.com/b/joscon/

Thanks for the replies. I am using a non tpm protection because of i'm on a virtual machine, so i only ca nuse a startup key protector based on a floppy drive. So if the drive is booted is encrypted and the administrative shares are available?

As long as the floppy with the key is enabled, once the VM is booted it will act the same as an unecnrypted drive and all shares should be available. Once you're in the operating system, BitLocker is out of the picture.--Joseph [MSFT] http://blogs.technet.com/b/joscon/
