Bitlocker freezing on correct password entry!?!?!
Alright, decided to try bitlocker on the windows 7 7100 rc build. motherboard apparently is not TPM compliant. I wanted to encrypt my external 1tb sata > usb drive. Bitlocker took a REALLY long time to encrypt it, i honestly dont remember seeing the "completed" dialog.Went to access the drive, bitlocker popped up and asked for the password. typed the password in incorrectly by mistake, told me it was wrong. Slowly typed the correct password in, and as soon as i hit enter it freezes the window. External drive status light says that the drive is being accessed constantly so i let it go overnight, woke up, still frozen. Took HD out of shell, put internally into pc, booted into windows, tried typing password in again, frozen once again. Tried on my laptop through external again, still freezes. I cannot get into any repair tool to try and diagnose this issue as windows sees this drive as "a working bitlocked HD"I honestly dont know what else to do here, there is a LOT of data on there i want to keep, and i have no way of accessing it. Any suggestions?P.S. Trying to download either bitlocker repair tool or preperation tool from the microsoft site says that "the update is not applicable to your computer" and will not allow me to run, download, do anything with them (verified/activated windows 7 install)

I have had this same problem with one of my externals. Essentially, when you plug it in and the bitlocker window comes up, like you: when you enter a wrong password, it tells you so. But when you enter in a correct one, the drive busy light is on and the window freezes. I solved this problem (more of a workaround) by plugging the usb cable in, let the bitlocker window come up, close the window, then eject the drive through the tray area, then pull the usb cable. After ejecting, plug the drive back in and enter the password once the bitlocker window comes up. Opens fine after that. It's not a bitlocker issue I believe. I previously had this drive encrypted with TrueCrypt, and it would do the same thing. Just posting (2 months later) if by chance some poor googler has the same issue and maybe this will solve their problem. Didnt do the trick. Did notice that after the password is typed in, the drive letter dissapears on the left side, (viewing all drives in my computer) the drive letter in the main window still displays the drive letter and yellow bitlock on it) Not sure what to do, is there any way to manually trigger the repair mode? First have to get the program to run first but some other way? Drive is a WD10EACS 1tb in a external sata to esata or usb. Did a few resets. plug in cancel, eject drive, unplug, wait, plug in, type bitlocker password, and freeze still

You mentioned that you never saw bitlocker complete complete the encrypting process.that is the problem.even i had abruptly closed the encryption half way through and next time i entered the password it would freeze.i found out that the only way to solve the problem is format the disk.you will lose your data but the only way is right-clicking on the drive and clicking format.this will solve your problem.

Flinttown, you can only use Bitlocker Drive Encryption if your motherboard BIOS is supporting the Specifications it needs. This explains your experienced Bitlocker behaviour. If not, just Encrypt the old way changing a Folder's Advanced options.##Be Honest, Respect each other's input, don't steal ideas, don't say anything you will regret, and most important: have FUN with computing!##
