Hi! I use bitlocker on my HP 6710b and works fine, but I decrypt the C: drive and I have a problem with the disk space.The disk have 139 Gb and the disk management indicate 101 Gb Free ~ 39 Gb used? ONLY Windows VISTA!!!The properties of the C: has the same value, but if I go to the Windows Explorer, the C: root and select ALL the files (hidden too!) and then right click and select properties, indicate 19 Gb !!!!!!!!!!!!!Where are the others 20 Gb??????Is Bitlocker hidden something? Anybody can help me??????????TIA.Mauricio.

Hi Mauricio This is usually attributed to the System Volume Information folder which holds all of the System Restore Points. If you have never changed the amount of space allocated to SR, by default, it will use up to 30 percent of the free space or 15 percent of the system volume. Here is how to check what is being used. Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories.Right clickthe Command Prompt item and select the 'Run As Administrator' option. This will open an elevated command prompt. Type this command: vssadmin list shadowstorage Press Enter. The results will show you, Used Shadow Copy Storage Space: (How much space is being used by System Restore)Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: (How much space is reserved for shadow copies)Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: (Total amount of space available for shadow copy) You can adjust the maximum amount of space available for shadow copies with this command: vssadmin resize shadowstorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=6GB (Press Enter) You can change the number of 'GB' to whatever you wish. I have found that 6GB is usually plenty. Besides adjusting the shadow copy space, you should also run the Disk Cleanup utility at least once a month and remove all but themost recentsystem restore points. Hope this helps.
