Bitlocker &/or File Mount Issue (The file is not corrupt, something in my system is)

I originally posted this over on the Windows 8.1 Forum but a support engineer closed it and recommended I post it here instead, so here I am.

My system:

Asus Z97 Pro Wifi / i7 4770K CPU / G.Skill 16GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM / Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD / Seagate 2TB Green HDD

using:

Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center

I've been using Bitlocker for some time, really as a replacement for Truecrypt right around when that went kaput.

I don't use it regularly, I have some files that I sync and back up maybe every 6 months or so into a vhd file. Lately I was about to get into encrypting certain files that I store in the cloud and on my NAS. I don't store super sensitive stuff in the cloud, but this is just a precaution - you really never know. I've scanned and am storing stuff like my and my wife's DL number, Birth Certificates, so on and so forth. I doubt hackers would want or need the info. but a lot of them are all about just bragging that they can get it and put it out there and I don't want to be a super easy shot.

Anyhow, I discovered a pretty big issue with my system. I can no longer open Bitlocker files/drives for some reason.

When I load the file, I get a message saying:

"sorry, there was a problem mounting the file"

I still get a Bitlocker message which pops up on the right top of my screen and when I click it and enter my password the drive loads into file manager with an icon, however I get another error message saying:

Drive (drive letter): is inaccessible

"The parameter is incorrect"

Nothing I do opens up the drive for use. I just keep getting the above message.

When I check Disk Management, the drive is detected as eg: 100GB Unknown (Bitlocker Encrypted), Healthy (Primary Partition) and shows the drive size as well as the letter the OS assigns.

I've done what I consider to be my due diligence and a lot of research - here's what I have tried.

1. I tried the file and my bitlocker encrypted drives on other Windows 8.1 machines - 2 others actually and they load fine...so the file and drives are definitely NOT corrupt.

2. I've tried creating a vhd and vhdx file on my machine and initially it all works perfectly, ie: I create the drive, play with it a bit and then bitlock it. It's all fine. I can unlock just fine as well, that is until I eject and re-mount it, then I get the same issue. Same thing with a thumb drive I tested with. I have tried VHD, VHDX, Fixed, Dynamic and regular and gpt. If I do not bitlock the drive, it gives the mount error but the drive loads fine and I can see the contents and use the disk.

3. Finally, I tried the SFC and the DISM RestoreHealth commands, neither of which reported any errors.

4. I wanted to add that this occurs when I mount ISOs as well, however the ISO loads fine. It doesn't occur for mounting SD cards or External Hard drives - so, basically the same thing as when I load VHD and VHDX files that have not been bitlocked.

I'm at my wits end. I am ready to just wipe and start over but Windows 10 is just around the corner and I don't want to setup my system twice in 2 months. I'm fine with holding out and waiting as I can encrypt and open on my other systems however this is my main system and I'm worried that this occurs again for some reason. I'd really like to be able to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated,

If there's any additional info that you need, please let me know.

Thanks.
