BitLocker - String password instead of numeric password?
Hey! When I want to encrypt an external device via BitLocker I can enter a string password, save the recovery file to another location and enable autounlock on this computer. What would be the respective command line for that? I can only enter a numeric pin with the -rp function... Thank you very much! Cheers

Hi, I would like to confirm that if you wanted to recover an encrypted drive with command line, lock or unlock a drive. Some more information: Repair-bde.exe Parameter Reference http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee706528(WS.10).aspx Scenario 16: Using the BitLocker Repair Tool to Recover a Drive http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee523219(WS.10).aspx Manage-bde.exe Parameter Reference http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd875513(WS.10).aspx Regards, Sabrina Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. It is possible using this command: manage-bde.exe -on E: -pw This will ask you for a password and you can also use characters. Another question: I am trying to save a recovery key (.bek) to my system drive when encrypting an external HDD with this command: manage-bde.exe -protectors -add E: -rk "C:\test\" But no matter if its this folder or my personal desktop, the file wont be saved. Actually the output means that this action was performed successfuly: C:\Windows\system32>C:\WINDOWS\system32\manage-bde.exe -protectors -add E: -rk "C:\test\" BitLocker Drive Encryption: Configuration Tool version 6.1.7600 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Key Protectors Added: Saved to directory C:\test" External Key: ID: {<GUID>} External Key File Name: <GUID>.BEK But there is no .bek file. And no .txt file. How can I save a Recovery Key within a textfile to be able to unlock my drive if I forget the password? Thank you! Cheers!
