Basic Windows 7 NTFS Permissions
I was wondering if there is a document that gave you the list of the base NTFS permissions for the system drive in Windows 7, or better yet a tool that would allow you to reset the permissions back to base settings, without reloading the system. This would also include the ownership setting as well. This would be greatly helpful when testing items for deployement on Windows 7. Some applications we run require that a specific folder or file be opened up to allow regular non-administrators to modify them. I'd much rather open just those individual items, instead of the whole system or more. And then I'd like to be able to snap it back to basic and make sure the change works without breaking the system, or opening up more. Thanks in advanced for any help with this.

Hi, You could use Icacls to modify and view NTFS permissions for files and folders. Please visit the following references: Icacls Resetting NTFS files security and permission in Windows 7 RC If you want to reset all security settings to the default in Windows 7, you can use the following command line: secedit /configure /db defltbase.sdb /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /verbose Best Regards Dale
