Basic PPTP VPN Network Resource Visibility and DNS Setting

I'm attempting to setup a home VPN access through a Windows 8.1 PPTP connection. On that machine I have 4 HDD's I want to be able to map. I'd also like to setup all of my devices to VPN to my home network for on the go access and internet browsing security in public networks. I can currently connect after creating a "new Incoming Connection" on the Host machine. However, I get very inconsistent DNS issues when trying to browse on either the host or client machine. As soon as I connect to the VPN, my Host machine is unable to browse the web. It gets a DNS bad config error. Sometimes the client can't connect to the web for a dns reason.

Separate of this issue, I can't seem to see any of the network resources (shared drives) when connected to the VPN. Pinging typically times out when trying to reach the drives. I have tried manually entering the DNS Server 8.8.8.8 with mixed results. Does anyone recognize this/these issues?

I appreciate any help or advice

Hello iTriMara,

I dont see that you are using Azure Services for PPTP connections. Please confirm the same, and if you are not using Azure Services,  let me know, we can move the thread to the Windows 8.1 Networking forum for better audience.

Thanks,

Hello iTriMara,

I am moving your thread to Windows 8.1 Networking forum as the question is not related to Azure.

Thanks,
