Bad_System_Config_Info - BSOD - Corrupt Registry
Was using my laptop earlier this morning, was working fine. Turned it off, and when I rebooted a few hours later, it hung on the start up screen. Nothing happened for around 15/20 minutes so I held the power which shut down the machine. After that, I started getting BSOD, stating Bad system config info - which would then reboot. I have tried all options on the repair menu, repairing start up says that the registry is corrupted. I can restore back to a previous date a few months ago. Every time I restart, the BSOD comes back. There is a new restore point every time, which was created by a Critical Update. I've checked Windows Update and I have disabled all of them, but the BSOD still comes up. Reverting back to the restore point every time works... And the only thing I haven't tried is repairing from the boot disc. I've read numerous posts on here where people have messed around with Processors and Memory, but I haven't done any of that. Haven't made any changes to the machine at all - only thing I can think of is the windows update which is corrupting it. Viewing recently installed updates in control panel - only ones I have recently installed are from 2/3 months ago. Have ran disk check - which repaired a few files, then on reboot it blue screened again. Last resort is to factory default it. Anything else I can try? Acer 5736Z - Windows 7 x64 - 3GB RAM - Pentium T4500 - If they're needed... Thanks

Hi, Bug Check 0x74: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO This bug check indicates that there is an error in the registry. This bug check can occur if some critical registry keys and values are missing. Thee keys and values might be missing if a user manually edited the registry. Try restarting the computer by selecting "last known good configuration" in the boot options. If the restart does not fix the problem, the registry damage is too extensive. You must reinstall the OS or use the Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) that you previously created by using the Windows Backup tool.
